The Ministry of Health and Welfare had issued a statement on Monday saying Mahe in Pondicherry, Kodagu district in Karnataka and Pruri Garhwal district in Uttarakhand have not reported any coronavirus cases in the last 28 days. Lav Agarwal, the Joint Secretary in the Health Ministry went on to say that the number of districts with not a single positive COVID-19 case being reported in the last 14 days has as well increased to 59 with Goa and Manipur becoming the first two states to be declared free of the deadly virus.

The nationwide lockdown, which began on March 25, and later extended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to May 3 from April 14, is finally showing major progress with relief for the people in the said states and areas including medical officials and the Health Ministry as well. The Ministry of Health and Welfare then went on to state that the death toll due to COVID-19 virus in India has risen to over 500 with the number of positive cases crossing 17,000 as of 5PM on Monday evening. A total of 1,553 cases have been confirmed and 36 deaths reported in the last 24 hours with ithe growth of COVID-19 reduced to a considerable extent in Kerala and Odisha.
