Rolling Stone India has unveiled a new magazine cover on Friday featuring leading Tamil rapper, lyricist, and singer 'Therukural' Arivu after he was omitted on the cover of the August 2021 issue of American magazine that was released last week. Tagging music producer OfRo as well, Rolling Stone India tweeted, "#BeyondBorders: Wordsmith, composer and rapper @TherukuralArivu appears on our August 2021 digital cover. Following acclaim for his album ‘Therukural’ with @ofrooooo, the Tamil artist has scorched a path out, raising his voice against systemic injustices," while also crediting photographer Ravi Balineni for the picture. On the cover of the magazine, Rolling Stone India has credited Arivu as follows: "The trailblazing Tamil rapper is the voice of socio-political hip-hop, smashing records defying social norms." Check out the tweet below:

The Indian edition of Rolling Stone had earlier interviewed Dhee and Shan Vincent De Paul, the singers of hit songs like "Enjoy Enjaami" and "Neeye Oli" (the latter featured in director Pa. Ranjith's Sarpatta Parambarai starring Arya). Although "Neeye Oli" is written by Arivu (Tamil lyrics) and Shan Vincent de Paul (English lyrics), "Enjoy Enjaami" was sung and written jointly by Dhee and Arivu. The cover of Rolling Stone had previously not mentioned Arivu. As a result, there was subsequent backlash from many in the fan community, including Pa. Ranjith, who tweeted his criticism towards Rolling Stone and the music label Maajja for not crediting Arivu for the two songs. He tweeted, "@TherukuralArivu, the lyricist of #Neeyaoli and singer as well as lyricist of #enjoyenjami has once again been invisiblised. @RollingStoneIN and @joinmaajja is it so difficult to understand that the lyrics of both songs challenges this erasure of public acknowledgement?"

Both "Enjoy Enjaami" and "Neeye Oli" have turned out to be phenomenal hits as the former has garnered more than 321 million views, while the latter has crossed over 2.3 million views respectively on YouTube.
