A film that has had sky-high excitement right from the moment of its announcement, Vijay's Thalapathy 65 was announced by the prestigious Sun Pictures towards the end of last year. Director Nelson Dilipkumar of Kolamaavu Kokila and the upcoming Sivakarthikeyan-starrer Doctor, was announced to be teaming up with Vijay for the first time, with 'Rockstar' Anirudh Ravichander returning to compose music for the superstar for the third time after Kaththi and the recent box office blockbuster, Master. That said, as the countdown for Vijay's birthday has already begun and celebrations on social media are also visible, Sun Pictures on Friday officially announced in a short video promo that the Thalapathy 65 first look would be unveiled on June 21 at 6PM.

Apart from the Master first look released on December 31, 2019, the Thalapathy 65 first look announcement falls in line with Vijay’s three other previous blockbusters in the last four years starting with Mersal (2017), Sarkar (2018) and Bigil (2019), which were unveiled on the same date. There has been plenty of talk on social media for a while now surrounding the Thalapathy 65 first look, including some doubts as to whether Sun Pictures would take the step forward and release it. However, all doubts have now been quashed with this latest massive announcement as Vijay fans have already taken up their celebrations a notch higher. Sun Pictures wrote on Twitter, "Enna nanba? First look ah?   #Thalapathy65FLon21st #Thalapathy65FirstLook @actorvijay @Nelsondilpkumar @anirudhofficial @hegdepooja #Thalapathy65". Check it out below:

The Thalapathy 65 team is at present in Chennai and are expected to resume production once again after the coronavirus lockdown restrictions in Tamil Nadu are relaxed. The team has already completed the first schedule at Georgia, with the makers also releasing a special pooja video towards the end of March. The film also has actress Pooja Hegde making her comeback to Tamil cinema after nearly a decade when she made her debut in Mysskin's Mugamoodi. Apart from Vijay and Pooja Hegde, Thalapathy 65's supporting cast also includes popular Malayalam stars Shine Tom Chacko and Aparna Das, followed by VTV Ganesh among others.
