May 10 - TN COVID Update: 669 New Cases | 3 New Deaths | Total - 7204 Cases & 47 Deaths

It is that time of the day when the official number of the COVID-19 cases are released and May 10th has had a huge spike, considered to yesterday. After a couple of days with low numbers, there was a feeble hope of the infection plateauing but today's stats have been disappointing! The numbers are very high, especially in Chennai, which has gone on to record the highest single day infections, surpassing the previous high. The official numbers of #COVID-19 Novel Corona Virus cases in Tamil Nadu are out and we have it for you. The numbers for the last 24 hours show that Tamil Nadu has had 669 new cases of COVID positive being reported, taking the overall total to 7,204! Of these, 509 new cases have been identified in Chennai alone, taking the district's total to 3,3839, with Tiruvallur having 47 cases, Chengalpattu registering 43 new cases, Krishnagiri adding 10 cases and Perambalur 9! 

There have been 3 new COVID related deaths in Tamil Nadu in the past 24 hours, taking the total to 47. As of now, Chennai is the biggest hotspot in the state and has 3,839 cases registered, of which 3,171 are active. The total number of active cases in entire Tamil Nadu, stands at 5,195, thus the number of active cases are far higher than the number of cases recovered! The number of recoveries has been moderate today, with 135 new recoveries and discharges and the total number of recovered people is now at 1,959. There have been 13,367 samples tested, in the past 24 hours alone, taking the total tests to 243,037! Tamil Nadu has now become the the state with the third highest COVID-19 infections, following Maharashtra (20,228) and Gujarat (7,797)!
