One of the most straightforward speakers in the Tamil industry, who has been in Cinema for over 40 years in various capacities; popular director, producer, distributor and exhibitor KR has been very vocal about his views on the happenings in tinsel town! Recently, he had addressed a letter to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, asking that Thalapathy Vijay's upcoming movie Master not be released immediately after theatres reopen across the State! KR had stated business as well as health and safety concerns as his reasons behind such a request! Galatta Media caught up with this veteran to chat with him about Cinema and everything around it and how it is being affected by the COVID lockdown as well as his thoughts on how the resurgence is going to be! In a freewheeling and exclusive chat, KR expressed his opinion on a number of subjects and one of them was how much Cinema had changed between when he entered into the industry and now!

Heroes are far more powerful than producers and they make all the decisions says producer Keyaar

KR states that in the past, the producers were the ultimate authorities for any project and that it started with them. Producers would listen to a number of scripts from writers and finalise on one before then identifying the right director to helm that project. They would then discuss and narrow down the artistes along with other technicians, for their script. KR however feels that the trend is totally different in today's industry! He feels that it is the heroes who are the bosses and producers approach them first to get their dates. Then, it is the hero who decides which director and what script they would be working on. KR also states that it is the hero who decides the most important members of the project like the heroine, music director and other important technicians. Secondly, he also revealed that previously producers and distributors would be screened the project as and when the rushes came in and their inputs would be taken into consideration but nowadays, producers are not even allowed to enter the sets and are asked to stick to the business aspect of things! There are quite a number of other topics that we discussed in the interview and it shall soon be live on the Galatta YouTube channel! Stay tuned...
