Veteran singer and wife of late Hindi music director Khayyam, Jagjit Kaur, passed away at the age of 93 on Sunday morning. "According to the late artist's spokesperson, Jagjit Kaur, wife of the late music composer Mohammed Zahur Khayyam, breathed her last around 6 am at her residence in Mumbai", news agency ANI reported. Known among fans for singing memorable songs like  "Dekh Lo Aaj Humko" from Bazaar and "Pehle To Aankh Milana" from Shola Aur Shabnam, Kaur's last rites were performed the Pawan Hans Crematorium, SV Road Vile Parle in Mumbai on Sunday.

Having started her singing career in Bollywood in the '50s, Jagjit Kaur also sang songs in films like Posti and Dil-e-Nadan and tied the knot with legendary Hindi film music director Khayyam in 1954. It is to be noted that she also crooned the smash hit "Kahe Ko Byahi Bides" song in the Bollywood cult classic, Umrao Jaan, in 1981, which incidentally had music composed by Khayyam. Sadly, Khayyam, a Padma Bhushan recipient, best known for his music in films like Foot Path, Shola Aur Shabnam, Kabhie Kabhie and Umrao Jaan to name a notable few, passed away at the age of 92 after suffering from a lung ailment at the Sujay Hospital in Juhu, Mumbai in August 2019. Khayyam was also a Sangeet Natak Akademi Award winner and began his musical career at the age of 17. During his lifetime, he was also honored with the National Film Award for Best Music Direction in Umrao Jaan, including taking home the Filmfare Award thrice.
