The controversial Jayalalitha's biopic to release directly on OTT? | Official Clarification
The late Dr. J Jayalalithaa is a legend in Tamil Nadu and is renowned as an actor as well as a politician. Her life story has inspired many filmmakers to make movies and web-series and one of them is the upcoming movie Thalaivi, directed by Vijay. This movie stars Kangna Ranaut as Jayalalithaa and Arvind Swami as the legendary MGR. Bankrolled by Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shailesh R Singh under the Vibri Media and Karma Media and Entertainment banners, Thalaivi is being made simultaneously in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. The movie was been progressing rapidly before the lockdown and had plans to release the film on June 26th. Now it is rumoured that Thalaivi will not have a theatrical release and will premiere directly on OTT platform and will be aired on both Netflix and Amazon.
The production house has however denied this news to us. We got in touch with the producers through their PR agency to know if the direct OTT release plan is really on. The production team was quick to react to the news saying it is not true. So, from what we hear, the makers of Thalaivi are planning to release the film only on theatres and not directly on OTT. The film does have a good expectation, the promos and teasers released so far have got mixed reactions but they did create a huge buzz, so a lot of people are willing to pay money to watch Thalaivi and the producers feel the want to use that frenzy.
