The entire world is suffering from the effects of the COVID-19 Novel Corona Virus Pandemic and there have been lakhs of lives lost and thousands of lakhs of people have been affected by it. However, many industries have been adversely affected by the Lockdown measures and the economy is taking a major hit, across the world! Just recently, it was reported that lakhs of litres of craft beer were poured down the drains as they began to go stale, in the Delhi-NCR area. Now, there has come a similar stage in Maharashtra too! About 20 craft beer breweries in the state are mulling over pouring nearly a lakh of freshly brewn beer down the drain as the storage costs are turning too high!

1 lakh litres of fresh beer to go down drain in Maharashtra due to COVID

Reports state that there are roughly 3 lakh pints of freshly brewn craft beer in total, amounting to about 1-lakh litres. These craft beers have to be stored in specific temperatures or they might go stale, unlike regular beers, which can be bottled and stored. With no way to sell these, there seems to be no other option but to dispose of them by pouring down the drains. Reports state that the product might be worth about Rs. 90 Lakhs including production costs and excise duty. This is due to the short shelf-life of craft beer, unlike that of bottled beer and if not consumed within a specific time period, it goes to waste. Also, the breweries and pubs do not expect people to come to public places for quite some time, even if the lockdown is lifted and this is the reason behind them looking at disposing off the beer. Thus, the breweries have to take a call on whether to invest more money for the preservation of the produced beer or cut the losses and dispose of it. Stay tuned for updates...
