Chengalpet: Two days after a 19-year-old polytechnic student succumbed to a bullet wound, his friend surrendered at the district court here on Wednesday. According to sources, the boy had shot the victim following a petty quarrel and had been on the run. The Thalambur police had been investigating the case.

Sources said that on Tuesday, 19-year-old Mukesh, a polytechnic student, visited his friend Vijay who lived with his mother and elder brother at Kelambakkam in the outskirts of Chennai. Vijay (20), who worked as a delivery boy, was at home with his brother Uday when Mukesh visited them. Uday was sitting right outside their house, assuming his younger brother and friend were watching videos on the phone. In a short while, he heard an explosion and rushed in to find Mukesh in a pool of blood. Vijay had reportedly shot him following a petty argument. The 20-year-old had reportedly picked up the country-made gun from garbage around two years ago.

They took the critically injured boy to the Tagore Medical college and then to the Rajiv Gandhi Government hospital, where he was declared brought dead. The siblings had been on the run ever since and surrendered before the Chengalpet court on Thursday.
