In a shocking incident, a 28-year-old woman, who was admitted in the Teerthankar University Hospital at Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, after testing positive for the novel coronavirus, fell to her death from the third floor of the building, while she was allegedly trying to escape.

The woman was identified to be a resident of Gaura village under the Ram Nagar local police station area, with CCTV footage later revealing her desperate efforts to escape from the hospital through a window on the third floor. The incident had taken place at around 7.30AM with police officials from Ram Sagar stating she had fallen off the window ledge. The woman's body was found on the first floor. Up until now, no complaint has been filed with the police by the woman's family.

District Magistrate Rajesh Kumar Singh issued a statement saying a post-mortem was being conducted to establish the cause of death. A police official had earlier said that the body was not sent for a post-mortem examination as the woman was a COVID-19 patient. However, Mr Singh went on to confirm that an autopsy of the body was indeed being carried out.

Moradabad has so far recorded nearly 3,000 coronavirus cases with more than 2,100 people getting discharged upon recovery in hospitals, and the death toll in the city going up to 73 persons. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh is the fifth worth-affected state due to COVID-19, with 1,67,510 cases recorded as on Wednesday evening, according to the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The state has 49,645 active cases, while 1,15, 227 persons have made a recovery and the death toll has gone up to 2,683.
