The entire world is facing the brunt of the COVID-19 Novel Corona Virus Pandemic and the loss of life due to this deadly virus is very high! The number of people infected by the Corona Virus has touched 40 Lakhs across the world and almost all the countries are in lockdown mode, to control the spread of this Virus! India has also been on a nation-wide lockdown since March 25th and this left a number of people stranded in various parts of the country, mostly consisting of migrant workers, tourists and students. The Indian government recently allowed the return of migrants to their native places and efforts are on from the State Governments to facilitate this. Pune's Budhwarpet region is very popular for Electrical goods as well as for being a Commercial Sex Workers (CSW) Zone!

Most of the CSWs are from other parts of the country and now quite a few of them have applied at their local police station to travel back to their native places. Ever since the nation went into lockdown, business has been prohibited at Budhwarpet and there has been no source of livelihood for the CSWs. However, some social welfare organisations have been making arrangements to provide rations and food for the residents of Budhwarpet but now most of them want to return home. The biggest issue facing these Sex Workers is whether they would be accepted by their families, when they return. Some of them are happy to stay back, especially as food and rations are being arranged for them but despite the confusion over whether they would be accepted or not, most of them want to leave! In 2009, the Police raided the area to prevent trafficking of minor girls and they estimated about 2500 sex workers in the region!
