The director of the film Srinath Ramalingam has made a remarkable debut. This technically sound horror, Unakkenna Venum Sollu clearly explains the scientific process of hypnotherapy and its healing power in a simple way. However, the director has also advocated the presence of ghosts and spirits through the film which will definitely leave one scared. The cast which comprises of a bunch talented fresh faces such as Deepak Parmesh, Jaqlene Prakash, Gunalan Morgan and Juidy have all given impressive performances. Deepak Parmesh who essays the role of an irresponsible youngster and then as a matured loving father is laudable. The actor has given an emotional performance in the second half of the film.Jaqlene Prakash who resembles the versatile actress Konkona Sena has proven to be a good performer. Gunalan Morgan appears as a loving husband and a caring father and the mysterious role of Juidy played by Mouhrhrna Anetha also deserves a special mention. Little Anu who essays the role of Daisy wins the heart of the audience as a good ghost. Versatile performer Mime Gopi is the only familiar face in the film and stuns the audience with his easy performance. Every time he appears on the screen, the audience is brought to the edge of the seat thanks to the chilling thrills.
One cannot stop raving about the sound design of the film. With the detailed sound design, the film is experienced the best in dolby atmos. Even the silence offers spine chilling moments in the dolby atmos mix. The soulful music and the thrilling background score by Siva Saravanan has helped to switch between the moods of the film. Manish Murthy's cinematography and Harry Haran's editing has boosted the suspense elements and thrills in the film. Having said all the positives, a few drawn out scenes and cliched dialogues especially in the first half of the film could have been avoided. In fact, a tighter screenplay would have elevated the film to the next level. Unlike other horror films, the main attraction of the Unakkenna Venum Sollu is that the director has given an unexpected feel good climax.
Verdict: A feel-good spooky thriller!
