India is a land of many languages, cultures and diversities. There is a huge misconception that all Indian Cinema is Bollywood, outside our country, whereas we have a number of different language industries which are striving to outdo one another. However, there has for long been a great divide in entertainment news reporting, with several North Indian media houses reporting half-baked or unverified reports on South Cinema and the southern stars. A recent report by a rather popular media portal on Chiyaan Vikram, has led to a lot of confusion. An article on this particular site mentioned that Chiyaan Vikram, one of the most popular and sought after actors, had decided to end his career to focus on his son Dhruv Vikram's career! This led to a lot of chaos as no such announcement was given by the National Award winning actor.

Later, a press release clarifying that this news was false from Vikram's side, led to the errant media house taking down their original article and putting up a correction. This is not an one-off incident as most North Indian media do not bother to clarify even basic things like if a star is from Kollywood (Tamil Cinema), Tollywood (Telugu), Mollywood (Malayalam) or Sandalwood (Kannada). All these four language industries are thriving on their own and many stars are actually making a transition across boundaries and making films with pan-Indian appeal. Some movies like Baahubali, Pailwaan and KGF are taking the Southern stars places! Vikram himself has acted in a couple of Hindi movies including Raavan and David and is very popular amongst the Bollywood audiences. In such cases, it is very irresponsible of media houses to make blatant errors while reporting and it would have been better if they had clarified with the respective star's PRO or media management team. Such error-prone reporting would only cause chaos and create unwanted confusion among the stars' fans, as it did so now. We sincerely hope such issues are avoided and the respect that the Southern stars and their body of work deserve, is duly given by all the media houses!
