Veteran Tamil actor Rahman's mother Savithri Nair passed away on Wednesday at 3.30 pm in Bengaluru. She was 84. The funeral proceedings for Rahman's mother will take place on Thursday morning in their native of Nilambur, Malappuram district, Kerala. The actor's father K. Muhammad Abdul Rahman had died in December 2018. Rahman, who has garnered a big fan following in Tamil cinema since his entry in the mid-1980s, also has a sister named Shameem, a doctor by profession, while his wife Meherunnisa is the sister of Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman's wife Saira Banu. 

Rahman had recently gotten his first jab of vaccination for coronavirus, while also sharing pictures on his social media pages. He recently shared a few words on the occasion of National Doctor's Day and cited the massive contributions of the health workers in tackling the pandemic. The popular actor, who started his career in Malayalam cinema, soon impressed fans over the years in Tamil films namely Pudhu Pudhu Arthangal, Sangamam, Ethiri, Raam, Ajith's Billa, Suriya’s Singam II, Jyothika’s 36 Vayadhinile, Kuttrame Thandanai, including a riveting performance in Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru in 2016. Rahman currently is attached to films like Jayam Ravi's Jana Gana Mana, Thupparivaalan 2 with Vishal, including ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam's highly-anticipated epic multi-starrer historical magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan.
