Tamil cinema comedy legend Goundamani has been enthralling fans with his humor for more than four decades and continues to be a major influence even though he hasn't been on the big screen for nearly four years. The iconic comedian has starred in nearly 300 films to date and his collaboration with actor Senthil continues to be significant. Goundamani, who usually keeps a low profile in the public's eye, has been subject to rumors of his health failing on a number of occasions, with yet another new gossip story posted on YouTube on Friday.

Addressing the rumors, Goundamani's family has issued an official statement which reads as follows: "Actor Goundamani is hale and healthy. A rumor is being circulated on YouTube regarding the actor’s health condition. It is not true. He will soon be acting in a new upcoming film. Each time a rumor like this is started and spread around, a police complaint will be filed and strong action will be taken." Goundamani in his statement also said that he will resort to legal action in case the video on YouTube regarding his false health condition rumor is not removed with immediate effect. Goundamani's slapstick humour was a major highlight in several Tamil films from the mid-1980s until the early 2000s. The veteran comedy superstar's partnership with Senthil proved to be a big plus for filmmakers to draw more audiences to theatres. The actor's collaboration with top Tamil heroes like 'Superstar' Rajinikanth, 'Ulaganayagan' Kamal Haasan, Vijayakanth, Sathyaraj, Karthik, Ramarajan, including 'Thalapathy' Vijay and 'Thala' Ajith films in the '90s continue to be memorable.

Apart from appearing in comedy roles, Goundamani has also starred as the lead in a few films. He went on to make a recovery from diabetes and respiratory illnesses during the late 2000s and returned to cinema in 2015 in the political satire film, 49-O, followed by Enakku Veru Engum Kilaigal Kidayathu and the courtroom drama, Vaaimai, in 2016.
