Tamil Nadu government issued a new bulletin to the media on Saturday as part of its daily updates regarding the effects of the novel coronavirus in the state as well as the response in terms of health and relief efforts. The state has now revealed that 759 people have been identified to have contracted the COVID-19 infection on May 23 with the total in Tamil Nadu now rising to 15,512 cases. TN has now crossed the 15,000 cases mark and is second in the nation after Maharashtra for the most number of coronavirus cases.

Chennai district has registered 625 new cases taking the total to date to 9,989 cases and is expected to cross the 10,000 mark next. Five people succumbed to their deaths on Saturday as a result of COVID-19 infecting them taking Tamil Nadu's death toll past the 100 mark to 103. Among the 103 deaths in the state so far, 72 are from Chennai city. There have been 363 new recoveries today as the total number of discharges in the state has risen to 7,491. The number of people placed in isolation upon suspicion of being infected with coronavirus stands at 5,518.
