Tamil actor-politician 'Captain' Vijayakanth's health condition has deteriorated mildly in the last 24 hours, as per the latest official health report. On Wednesday, November 29, MIOT International Hospital, Chennai, issued a press release informing that the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) founder would be requiring further treatment and has been placed under pulmonary support. The hospital further stated that Vijayakanth would be under observation for the next 14 days and expressed their hope for his quick and full recovery.

MIOT Hospital's health report states, "Mr. Vijayakanth was showing a good improvement. However, over the last twenty-four hours, his health deteriorated mildly thereby requiring a small amount of pulmonary support. We are confident that he will show a complete recovery. He will be placed under the observation of the doctors for the next 14 days." This latest statement from the hospital comes after reports a few days back claimed that Vijayakanth was on ventilator support, with the DMDK dismissing the false news. The party said in a statement, "This is absolutely false news. We request you not to believe in any rumors."

Vijayakanth, addressed by his party cadre and fans as 'Captain', faced health setbacks a few years back, leading to lesser public appearances. A Tamil Nadu State Film Honorary Award and Kalaimamani Award recipient, the actor-politician has appeared in more than 150 films to date, with fans addressing him by the moniker 'Captain' after the blockbuster action film, Captain Prabhakaran (1991). Known for his fiery speeches, Vijayakanth contested in the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls for the first time in 2006 winning one seat, while playing a game-changer role in the following elections getting 29 seats in an alliance with the AIADMK.
