Cauvery Calling is aiming to plant 1.1 crore trees in Tamil Nadu in 2023 and kicked off the initiative on the occasion of World Environment Day, on June 5, by starting a series of tree plantation drives across the state. A tree plantation ceremony was also held at the D K Swaminathan Farm, Naraseemapuram, with Mr. M Shanmugam, MP, Aroma Ponnuswamy, Swami Ajay Chaitanya, Noyyal Trust, Manikandan, Kovai Kulangal Pathugappu Amaippu, Krishnaswamy, Director, Velliangiri FPO, and Mrs Vanitha Mohan, Siruthuli, attending the event as special guests.

Speaking at the event, Member of Parliament for the Pollachi Constituency Mr. Shanmuga Sundaram said, "Two lakh saplings have been planted in agricultural lands in Thondamuthur so far through Isha's 'Pasumai Thondamuthur' project. It is a matter of pride that the farmers are enthusiastically participating in this project which aims to increase green cover from 22 percent to 33 percent. Particularly, farmers should plant more trees in Noyal watershed areas and on agricultural lands." He added, "On World Environment Day, I would like to extend my congratulations and thanks to organizations such as Velliangiri Uzhavan Producers Company, Cauvery Calling Movement, and other organizations working with the Tamil Nadu government to increase the green cover."

Several similar tree-planting ceremonies were organized across all the districts of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry on June 4 and 5. Nearly 1.6 lakh trees were planted on the lands of around 140 farmers and included valuable timber trees such as teak, red sandalwood, banyan, neem, mahogany, and rosewood. Thrilled by the response to their plant sapling initiative, Isha informed on social media, "We’re truly delighted & overwhelmed by the unprecedented scale & reach of our sapling plantation campaign launched on #WorldEnvironmentDay! Covering Tamil Nadu, in over 140 events, our commitment to enabling plantation of 11 million saplings across the state got off to an unbelievable start! Thousands including farmers, lawmakers & volunteers participated in a show of strength for #CauveryCalling to achieve its target. Our gratitude to all in making this happen. #SaveSoil (sic)".
