Jamuna is a veteran south Indian actress, director and politician who has acted in over 100 films. Most of her works are in Telugu but she has also made a mark in the Tamil film industry. Her last Tamil film was in 1983 when she played Kamal Haasan’s mother in Thoongadhey Thambi Thoongadhey. Jamuna made her acting debut at the age of 16 in Dr. Garikapati Rajarao's Puttillu (1953), and received her breakthrough with LV Prasad's Missamma. Jamuna was a stage artist in school. Her mother taught her vocal music and harmonium. Dr. Garikipati Raja Rao (see Indian People's Theatre Association IPTA) watched her stage show Maa Bhoomi and gave her offer to act in his movie Puttillu in 1952.

Yamuna also started the Telugu artist association and she has been doing social service through it for the last 25 years. She joined Congress party in 1980s and was elected to the Lok Sabha from Rajahmundry constituency in 1989. She then retired from politics. Jamuna is now 83 years old but she is still very much active and brisk. Her recent dance video during the quarantine will take everyone by a surprise.
