The COVID-19 Novel Corona Virus Pandemic has been claiming lives across the world mercilessly and is still going about infecting hundreds of thousands of people. The most disheartening aspect of this is that some people have fallen prey to illogical thinking during these sad times and are losing their basic humanity. Just a couple of days ago, there was a shocking incident in Chennai when a group of people protested against the burial of a doctor who had succumbed to the Corona Virus, after fighting on the frontlines to save many patients. The angry protestors even damaged the ambulance, his body was being carried in. Recently, another similar case came to light in Erode, where people protested against the cremation of a man who lost his life at a Government Hospital after succumbing to high fever!

TN Govt to take legal action on people blocking burial or cremation

Though many people and the authorities have been talking about the safety measures that are being taken in the cremation of bodies of people who die due to the Corona Virus, there are still some who refuse to accept these and go about protesting against cremation or burial of such cases. The Government had earlier warned such protestors and had also filed cases against those who indulged in such activities. Now, there are reports that the Tamil Nadu Government has promulgated an ordinance to make provisions for fining and/or jailing (1 to 3 years) those who block or attempt to block burial/cremation of any person who dies due to any notifiable disease, under the Tamil Nadu Public Health Act! This is a very good step indeed and we hope people understand the gravity of the situation and reach inside themselves to find the lost humanity, in these dark times!
