Simbu has finally kicked off filming for his Maanaadu being produced by Suresh Kamatchi under his V House Productions banner with Venkat Prabhu directing it and Yuvan Shankar Raja scoring the music. Announced for a theatrical release this August, Maanaadu is said to be a mass masala action political entertainer with pictures from the upcoming film's pooja held earlier today leaving fans in joy. Announced initially in mid-2018, Maanaadu has seen quite a lot of production troubles, but is finally on track and is one of the most exciting projects to be coming out on the big screen later this year.

STR will be playing the role of a Muslim for the first time in his career with his character's name revealed a while back to be as Abdul Khaaliq​​​​​​. Post the Maanaadu pooja today morning, new images of Simbu dropped online showing the swashbuckling star with his moustache trimmed and beard untouched giving him the look of a Muslim youth. Apart from STR, Maanaadu includes a huge star cast and technical team featuring names like SJ Suryah as the antagonist, Kalyani Priyadarshan as the female lead, followed by Y. Gee. Mahendra, Karunakaran, Premgi Amaren, Manoj Bharathiraja, Daniel Annie Pope, Udhaya, Aravind Akash, Panchu Subbu and directors SA Chandrasekhar and Bharathiraja in supporting roles with cinematography by Richard M. Nathan, editing by Praveen K. L., Umesh J. Kumar as the art director, Rajeevan for the production design, action choreography by 'Stunt' Silva and costume designs by Vasuki Bhaskar.
