In tragic news, popular Malayalam actress Saranya Sasi passed away in a private hospital at Thiruvananthapuram on Monday morning after battling brain tumour over the last 10 years. She was 35. The Mollywood star had been undergoing treatment after she was diagnosed with cancer in 2012. According to reports, Saranya underwent around 11 surgeries among which nine were for removing the tumour in her brain and the other two to separate the growth in her thyroid and was hospitalised due to COVID-19 a few days back. The actress started facing setbacks when her health began deteriorating as the disease had spread to her spinal nerve, reports say. It is stated that Saranya was rushed to the hospital as a result of low sodium levels in blood and due to pneumonia even after she made a recovery from COVID-19 and other complications. 

The news of Saranya Sasi's demise was confirmed by actress Seema G Nair, who posted photos of their time together on Facebook and informed fans that she is no more, including posting a video remembering her on YouTube. Seema had been by Saranya's side throughout her treatment and recently posted an update about the late actress' health after she tested positive for coronavirus. Seema said, "The doctor's advice was that it was not possible to perform a quick surgery on the spinal cord. Saranya was soon taken to the RCC. The chemo was scheduled to start on June 3. On May 23rd, Saranya, her mother Geeta, and her brother got infected by COVID-19."

Saranya Sasi has made appearances in a number of films over the years among which include Annmariya Kalippilaanu, Bombay March 12, Chotta Mumbai and Thalappavu. She first took to acting in the popular Malayalam serial Balachandra Menon in 2006 and has since appeared in several shows like Manthrakodi, Harichandanam, Seetha to name a few. Saranya tied the knot with Binu Xavier in 2014 in a traditional ceremony in Kochi.
