Gopichand, is an Indian actor who works primarily in the Telugu cinema. Known for his roles in action films, he is popularly referred to as Action Star and Macho Star. He started his career as a villain with films like Tholi Valapu, Jayam, Nijam and Varsham. Following the positive reception towards his performance in Jayam, he reprised his role in the film's Tamil-language remake of the same title. Jayam still remain to be his only Tamil film. There were a lot of speculations doing rounds that Gopichand has been roped in to play the villain role in Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Annaatthe directed by Siva. It must be noted that Siva and Gopichand are good friends. The Siruthai director has made two films with Gopichand both turning out to be commercially successful.  
 
Gopichand has now clarified to a popular Telugu media house that he wasn’t approached for Rajinikanth’s project. But he also said that Siva has been wanting to do a film with him for quite some time but that’s not for Annaatthe. His statement reads as follows - “I am not sure how this rumours about me working in Rajni Sir’s next film began. But I think it is because of my close friendship with Annaatthe’s director, Siva. We are very good friends and we meet up quite often. He also told me about wanting to direct me in a film but he has been busy with other projects in Kollywood but the right script has just not come along yet.”
