The Chennai Corporation has framed new rules for operations at the Koyambedu market starting April 19 (Sunday) wherein traders who come for purchases will not be permitted after morning 7.30AM. Instructions have been given to small traders coming to the busy market in two wheelers to make their purchases in the morning hours between 4 to 7.30AM with the Chennai Corporation also saying that vehicles of those who violate this new rule will be seized. The decision has been made to scale down the movement of the oublic in the Koyambedu market, which is said to be the need of the hour owing to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The Tamil Nadu government had on Friday issued a statement saying the total number of people affected by the coronavirus in the state has gone up to 1,323 after 56 new positive coronavirus were reported. Yesterday also saw a drastic improvement in terms of recovery cases with 103 people getting discharged and returning home taking the total to 283 while the death toll stood at 15. Globally, the COVID-19 outbreak has affected 2,240,191 people with the number of casualties from the fatal disease standing at 1,53,822 as of Saturday.
