Balasubrahmanyam who passed away last year after complications due to COVID-19, followed by blockbuster director KV Anand as well succumbing to the disease, comedy actor Pandu, actor Nitish Veera, wife of director Arunraja Kamaraj, visually-challenged singer Komagan to name a notable few in 2021.

Now, in another shocking news for Tamil cinema fans, veteran South Indian actress Kavitha, who has appeared in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam films, has lost her son to COVID-19. Kavitha's son Sanjay Roop had tested positive for coronavirus and had been under home quarantine for the past few days. However, his health began to deteriorate and was then taken to the hospital where he breathed his last on Wednesday. The news of Kavitha's son's untimely demise has come as a big shock for the Tamil film fraternity and it is also being reported that her husband is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Following the news of Kavitha's son Sanjay Roop's demise, several people in the Tamil film industry have been expressing their condolences to the actress. Kavitha made her acting debut in the Tamil film at the age of 11 as a child as a child artiste in Oh Manju and later appeared in character roles for the majority part of her career. At present, she is playing an important role in the Tamil TV serial Endrendrum Punnagai being telecast on Zee Tamil.
