Our entire nation has come to a standstill with the Central Govt. announcing a 21-day lockdown across the country. Though this lockdown is necessary to overcome the spread of the dangerous COVID-19 Novel Corona Virus Pandemic, it has severely affected day-to-day life. Cargo transportation is one of the backbones of our country and the trucks which carry various goods from one part of the country to the other, are vital to keep any industry running. However, with all the industries also being under lockdown, these transport lorries and trucks are taking a severe hit. Only vehicles carrying basic essentials are being allowed to travel and all other vehicles have been asked not to move.

3.5 Lakh lorries stranded on roads with Rs. 35000 Crores goods

This, coupled with severe lack of food, shelter, safety and even basic toilet facilities, has led to many drivers and their assistants to leave their vehicles as they stand and flee back to their hometowns. This has heavily impacted the truckers and cargo loads including chemicals, industrial raw materials, cars, electronic gadgets, two-wheelers, electrical items, cement, steel and many other goods, have been left stranded. Some trucks are on roads, outside factories or godowns, lay-byes and other locations. There are no helpers to even unload the goods from the trucks that have already reached their destinations. The All India Transporters' Welfare Association has asked for a massive bailout package from the Government and also stated that their trucks are being stopped at State borders and checkposts, despite having necessary clearances.
