Noted Bollywood director Nishikant Kamat has passed away on August 17, evening at 4.24 PM. The acclaimed director was admitted to a private hospital in Hyderabad on July 31 after he was diagnosed with Chronic Liver Disease and other secondary infections. He was admitted in the ICU ward of the hospital and was getting treated for his health problems. Earlier today, there were reports that he was critical and was on ventilator support. Following that, it has now been confirmed that the director has left for his heavenly abode.

An official statement from the hospital management read, "Mr Nishikant Kamat (50 Years, Male) was admitted to AIG Hospitals on 31st July 2020 with complains of fever and excessive fatigue. It was diagnosed that he was suffering from Liver Cirrhosis for the past two years. Initially, we started antibiotics and supportive medications upon which Mr Kamat showed improvement, but his condition soon deteriorated with progressive liver dysfunction and drowsiness. He was immediately shifted to the ICU, where his general condition gradually declined. Since yesterday, he developed respiratory failure and hypotension. Despite maximum efforts from Hepatologists, Gastroenterologists, Pulmonologists and Intensivists, his condition deteriorated eventually leading to multiple organ failure. Today, from afternoon onwards his vital parameters started declining and at 1624 hrs he succumbed to his illness. Our condolences are with his family, friends and fans.”.

Director Nishikant Kamat is known for directing films like Dombivali Fast, Mumbai Meri Jaan, Force, Lai Bhaari, Rocky Handsome, Madaari, and more. His debut film Dombivali Fast won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Marathi. He has also directed Madhavan's Tamil film, Evano Oruvan that had Sangeetha and Seeman playing pivotal roles. Nishikant also directed the Hindi remake of Mohanlal's acclaimed blockbuster Drishyam that starred Ajay Devgn and Shriya Saran in the lead roles.

Apart from being a director, nishikant Kamat has also acted in supporting roles in films like Hava Aney Dey, Saatchya Aat Gharat, 404 Error Not Found, Rocky Handsome, Fugay, Daddy, Julie 2, Bhavesh Joshi, etc. Nishikant’s friends from the industry including Madhavan, John Abraham, Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh and others have shared their condolences on social media.
