Polladhavan, considered as one of a trendsetting action Tamil film is written and directed by Vetri Maaran. The film marked Vetri’s directorial debut which got mostly positive response and was eventually a super hit at the box office. Polladhavan featured Dhanush and Divya Spandana in the lead roles and was released on 8 November 2007 along with some heavy competition. Vijay’s ATM and Suriya’s Vel had also released for that festive weekend but it was Polladhavan which turned out to be that year’s Diwali winner.
The musical score was by GV Prakash Kumar, while Yogi B and Dhina composed each one song. Velraj was the cinematographer while VT Vijayan was the editor, and Rambo Rajkumar was the stunt choreographer. Polladhavan was remade in Kannada as Punda and in Telugu as Kurradu starring Varun
Sandesh but it could not repeat the success of the original version. It was remade in Sinhala as Pravegeya. This film was also remade in Bengali film Borbaad directed by Raj Chakraborty with debutant Bonny Senguta and Rittika sen and in Hindi as Guns of Banaras. The Hindi version is directed by Sekhar Suri which stars Karan Nath and Nathalia Kaur in the lead roles. Ganesh Venkatraman will be playing the villain in this gangster drama.
