All of India is under a nation-wide lockdown for over 60 days now and this current fourth phase of the lockdown will go on till May 31st! However, the Central and State Governments are relaxing some rules during this lockdown and the Tamil Nadu government allowed autos and cycle rickshaws to ply in the state from May 23rd, with just 1 passenger, from 7 am till 7 pm. However, autos and rickshaws in Chennai were not given permission to resume their services as the COVID-19 Novel Corona Virus infected cases in Chennai is very high and the city has a lot of Containment Zones too.
Now, the auto-rickshaw drivers in Chennai have requested the State Government to allow them to resume plying their vehicles. They have placed this request, citing that they don't have any source of income and have already been without any earnings for over 60 days now. Many auto drivers have come together to place this request to the government, as they don't have any other sources of income and are already very economically affected by the COVID-19 lockdown. Let's see if the Government responds to this request! Stay tuned...
