National Award-winning actress Kangana Ranaut has stated that she had carved her own path in the film industry, while adding that nothing was offered to her on a silver plate. The Bollywood superstar's comments came a day after veteran actress turned politician Jaya Bachchan, who questioned Kangana for calling the film industry being a "gutter".
Responding to a tweet posted by a fan which had Jaya Bachchan's query, Kangana tweeted in Hindi asking, "What thali (plate) is Jaya referring to? The one that was offered was to appear in a two-minute role, a romantic scene, item numbers -- and that too after sleeping with the hero? I taught the industry feminism, decorated the thali with patriotic films, this is my own plate Jaya ji, not yours."
https://t.co/lPo9X4hRZX

During the second day of the Monsoon Session in the Parliament, Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan stated that "People in the entertainment industry are being flogged by social media. People who made their names in the industry have called it a gutter. I completely disagree. I hope that the government tells such people not to use this kind of language. Jis thali mein khate hai usme chhed karte hai. Galat baat hai (they bite the hand that feeds, it’s wrong)." Kangana had earlier labelled the film industry as a "gutter" and claimed that almost 99% of the people working in it have already been exposed to drugs.
Jaya Bachchan's statement came after comments made by Kangana sustained attacks on a few people in the film industry, whom she has referred to as the 'movie mafia'. Kangana has made allegations that the 'movie mafia' metes ill-treatment to those who come to Bollywood from the outside such as herself and the late Sushant Singh Rajput, whose death fuelled this debate. The Queen actress had also asked top stars like Ranveer Singh, Ranbir Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal and director Ayan Mukerji to take blood tests to prove they are clean after she alleged that 99 percent of Bollywood consumes drugs.
