Director Venkat Prabhu has denied that his upcoming film, Custody, is a remake of the 2021 hit Malayalam political survival thriller, Nayattu. The blockbuster Tamil filmmaker took to social media on Thursday to brush away the claim that his Telugu directorial debut, also releasing in Tamil, on May 12, is a remake. Venkat Prabhu responded to a Twitter user and said, "Hehehehehe not true bro:))) everyone will know it tomorrow. U got it wrong of what I ACTUALLY said!! Custody starring Naga Chaitanya and Krithi Shetty is the most expensive film Venkat Prabhu has worked on to date in his glorious career, the hit filmmaker revealed recently during the film's press tour and pre-release events. There are huge expectations surrounding the Telugu-Tamil bilingual, which revolves around the hero who has to make sure that the villain does not die. The Custody trailer released a few days back showed Naga Chaitanya as a cop and Arvind Swami as a ruthless criminal pitted against each other, who are locked in a battle against time and big odds that includes the entire police force coming after them. There is also excitement among fans, who are looking forward to yet another intriguing entertainer in theatres along the lines of Maanaadu (2021).
Produced under Srinivasaa Chitturi's Srinivasaa Silver Screen banner, Venkat Prabhu's Custody, which has received a 'U/A' certificate from the censor board, will see Naga Chaitanya and Krithi Shetty sharing screen space with an ensemble cast featuring the likes of Arvind Swami, Priyamani, Sarath Kumar, Sampath Raj, Premji Amaren, Vennela Kishore, Premi Vishwanath, among others in crucial roles, while 'Maestro' Ilaiyaraaja and 'Little Master' Yuvan Shankar have composed the songs and the background score for the second time after Vijay Sethupathi's Maamanithan.
