Vinayan, producer lock horns over film

Veteran director Vinayan always courted controversy by opposing various associations in the industry. Now, he has entered another controversy by reacting to the allegations of producer Ruben Gomez (producer of his latest film Yakshiyum Njanum) that Vinayan refused to hand over the computer hard disk containing the film.

Addressing the media at Press Club, Kochi, Vinayan said the said hard disk contained only the rushes used for editing. The original version, which had been colour-corrected, was in a Chennai studio. Gomez was yet to collect that version, which was used to make prints for screening, he said.

Ruben Gomez earlier said that Vinayan promised to complete the film at Rs. 1.5 crores, but he had to spend more than Rs. 3 crores for the film to release, causing a loss of Rs 1.37 crores.

Referring the allegations on the budget, Vinayan said: "It is wrong on the part of the producer to abandon the film and complain of loss, when it had been screened only in 80 theatres. A Malayalam film is usually screened in 290-odd theatres across the state. A clear picture on the financial aspects would be available only after that and it is too early to complain."
