Over the last few years, South Indian films have been garnering wide attention from filmmakers and audiences in North India and the recent blockbuster success of the Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna-starrer Pushpa: The Rise – Part 1 is a testimony. In that light, one film that has been talked about quite a lot is the 2019 box office money-spinner, Viswasam, in Tamil, which starred Ajith Kumar and Nayanthara in the lead roles. Directed by Siva, the rural action family drama film's remake rights were acquired by producer Manish Shah, who according to latest reports, had approached Bollywood superstars Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar to play the role portrayed by Ajith. However, both stars apparently turned down the Viswasam Hindi remake offer because they "felt the film would not suit the Hindi audiences". 

Viswasam was released to a grand response in Pongal 2019 and turned out to be a massive box office success. The film produced by the prestigious Sathya Jyothi Films banner featured music by D. Imman, with his songs turning out to be a major USP, while also winning the Best Music Director at the 67th National Film Awards. Director Siva had packed in all the necessary commercial elements in Viswasam, with family audiences, including the youth lapping up the film. 

Meanwhile, both Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn have a packed 2022 with several films lined up ahead. Akshay has several films gearing up for their release till the first half of 2023. He is also currently shooting for several new films, with his historical action drama venture titled Prithviraj initially planned to be his first release of 2022. However, the shutdown of theatres due to the spread of the Omicron variant and the rise in the number of Covid-19 cases, pushed the team to postpone the film's theatrical release. As for Ajay Devgn, he will be seen sharing screen space with legendary Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan and Rakul Preet Singh in the upcoming Mayday, while his other ventures include Maidaan, Thank God, including his digital debut Rudra.  

Superstar Rajinikanth's Annaatthe is one of the most anticipated films that has got huge expectations among the fans. The film is directed by Siva whose last film, Viswasam was a mega hit at the box office. Siva will now be looking forward to continuing the success streak with Annaatthe as well. The film is produced by Sun Pictures. Annaatthe features an ensemble star cast featuring leading stars that includes the likes of Keerthy Suresh, Nayanthara, Meena, Khushbu Sundar, Prakash Raj, Soori, Sathish, and others. It is going to be quite exciting to see all these star actors together in one film. One more new actor has now joined the already star studded cast of Annaatthe and the official announcement regarding this was made by Sun Pictures.

Popular actor Jagapathi Babu will be acting in an important role in this Rajinikanth starrer and this marks his second outing with the legendary actor after Lingaa. Interestingly, Jagapathi Babu acted in Siva's previous directorial, Viswasam and the successful combination is back again for Annaatthe. It looks like Jagapathi Babu will play a negative character in the film. The announcement has created a good buzz on social media and the fans are excited about hearing an update of Annaatthe after a long time. Details regarding the new schedule of Annaatthe are yet to be known and director Siva is said to be planning the schedules right now.

Annaatthe is scheduled to release in theatres on November 4, 2021, for the festive occasion of Diwali and it will have a mega grand release across the globe. Annaatthe will reportedly focus on the relationship between a brother and a sister and the entire film will revolve around their bonding. According to reports, Keerthy Suresh is playing the role of the younger sister and she is said to have got an important role. The fans are excited to see Rajinikanth in a rural film after a very long time and the film is expected to showcase the legendary actor in a different dimension.

Viswasam is one of Ajith’s biggest blockbusters in his career and that film holds a special place in the hearts of the Tamil audience. This rural family entertainer which released for 2019 Pongal took the trade experts by shock with its phenomenal performance at the box office. The film received an overwhelming response from the family audience. Directed by Siva, Viswasam earned the love of the family audience for its beautiful and emotional portrayal of a father - daughter relationship. Similarly, the film registered a record number of impressions in its first world television premiere, thereby becoming a maximum-guaranteed movie.

Having said that, Viswasam was recently aired on Sun TV, on July 12, sunday evening at 6.30 PM. This happened to be Viswasam’s third telecast on Sun TV after its release. Now, the BARC (Broadcast Audience Research Council) has officially released the statistics report of Viswasam’s TRP rating and impression. Viswasam has recorded a staggering 16,120,000 impressions (from its telecast on July 12), thereby becoming the most viewed Tamil film during this lockdown (March 22 - present).

Earlier, Vijay’s Bairavaa was declared the film with highest impressions, but it has now been overtaken by Viswasam. Director Sundar C’s horror comedy, Aranmanai 2 has got the second place with 9,438,000 impressions while Sibiraj’s action cop drama, Walter secured the third place with 7,328,000 impressions. This report has been calculated for the 28th week of the year, dated between July 11 and July 17. This record breaking viewership has once again proved that Viswasam is a film that holds a strong place among the Tamil audience.

Ajith fans are completely delighted and happy about this record and the entire social media is abuzz about it. In fact, Viswasam’s production house, Sathya Jyothi Films, shared a specially designed poster for this record viewership, thanking the audience and fans for their love and support. Notably, this recent telecast’s impression is much higher than the film’s second telecast.

Director Majith had been undergoing treatment for COVID-19 at a private hospital in Chennai. He wasn’t able to leave the hospital since Majith couldn’t pay the hospital fee. The director had requested all his friends from the industry to extend financial assistance but none of them was in a position to help him. Producer Rajesh of KJR Studios knowing Majith’s situation paid his hospital dues and got him discharged. Majith has now thanked the producer for his timely help. During such tough situation that the world is going through, it is important for all of us to support one another. Rajesh deserves to be appreciated for his noble gesture.  
 
Abdul Majith made his directorial debut with Vijay’s Thamizhan which also had Priyanka Chopra as the female lead. He had an explosive start to his career, but since then all his films have been low profile ventures. Thamizhan was a social drama, campaigning for the widespread knowledge of legal rights, the film created anticipation prior to release. After Thamizhan, Majith directed films like Kee Mu, Thunichal and recently released Torchlight starring Sada in the lead role. We wish Majith gives a strong comeback with a big film soon. 

Actor Ajith will next be seen in the highly anticipated action film, Valimai, which has him playing the role of a cop and is the second-time collaboration with director H. Vinoth and producer Boney Kapoor’s Bayview Projects LLP banner after last year's Nerkonda Paarvai. Lovingly called as ‘Thala’ by his fans, Ajith had a stunning 2019 as both his films, Viswasam and Nerkonda Paarvai turned out to be box office blockbusters.

Among the two films released last year, Ajith's Viswasam set the cash registers ringing continuously and became a massive hit in the actor's illustrious career while also turning out to be one of the biggest successes of 2019. Produced under the Sathya Jyothi Films banner, the rural family action drama film marked the fourth-time collaboration for Ajith and director Siva after their Veeram, Vedalam and Vivegam.

Among the several highlights in Viswasam, composer D. Imman’s songs turned out to be chart-busters and still continue to be revered by many. Having said that, D. Imman has now thanked 'Thala' Ajith fans on his social networking pages for the humongous response towards making the album a grand success by hitting over 500 million streams on streaming services. Songs like ‘Adchi Thooku’, ‘Kannaana Kanney’, ‘Vettikattu’ have become massive hits in the Viswasam album with both the young and the elderly and are still continued to have many listeners. Distributed by KJR Studios, the film also had Nayanthara playing the female lead, Anikha Surendra, Jagapati Babu, Vivek, Yogi Babu, Robo Shankar, Kovai Sarala, Thambi Ramaiah among many others in vital supporting roles with cinematography by Vetri and editing by Ruben.

Sun TV made Pongal 2020 a memorable festive time for its audience with the telecast of five top stars films for the five days of Pongal festival. The list included Thalapathy Vijay’s Bigil (Jan 15), Sivakarthikeyan’s Namma Veettu Pillai (Jan 16), Vijay Sethupathi’s Sangathamizhan (Jan 17), Ajith's Viswasam (Jan 18) and Rajinikanth’s Petta (Jan 19). Following the telecast of these films, the TRP ranking and impression statistics have been officially released by Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), an organization that calculates TRP rankings of each program and show in a television channel. On that note, the first world television premiere of Thalapathy Vijay’s Bigil happened on January 15 evening at 6.30 PM and it has recorded 16,473,000 impressions.

Looking on an overall perspective, Bigil is ranked 6th place in the Top World Premiere TV Impressions list. The list is topped by Thala Ajith’s Viswasam which has recorded a mammoth number of 18,143,000. Viswasam had a dream run at the box office with the support of the family audience and the same reflected on its television premiere as well. Viswasam’s first world television premiere happened on May 1, 2019 on the special occasion of Ajith’s birthday.

For the particular week dated between January 11 and January 17, Bigil has topped the list, followed by Sivakarthikeyan’s Namma Veettu Pillai in the second place with 14,774,000 impressions. Vishal’s Sandakozhi 2 and Vijay Sethupathi’s Sangathamizhan were ranked 3rd and 4th respectively. Do note that this statistical report is only for the week dated between Jan 11 and Jan 17. Superstar Rajinikanth’s Darbar is off to a fantastic start at the box office and the film is running with packed houses in the theatres. On the other hand, his previous release, Petta is celebrating its first year anniversary today (January 10). Last year’s Pongal race at the box office is a history in Tamil cinema as we witnessed an epic clash between Rajinikanth’s Petta and Ajith’s Viswasam. The best part was both the films managed to emerge as blockbusters and it also gave an amazing start to that year’s box office. The film was directed by Karthik Subbaraj who is an ardent fan of Superstar Rajinikanth.

He made sure he got all the nostalgic Thalaivar moments in the film rightly and it also got a phenomenal response from the fans. Many people felt that the film brought back the Rajinikanth who was loved by the audience during the 80s and 90s. Marking the one year of Petta’s release, Sun Pictures shared a video on Twitter thanking the audience for the love and support. Director Karthik, for his part, shared a short emotional note on Twitter, thanking his entire team and the audience for making the film what it is today. He also thanked his idol Rajinikanth and Sun Pictures for assembling this project.

He stated that this day will always stay memorable in his life and he also termed it to be an important life changing day. Similarly, Sathya Jyothi Films, which produced Viswasam, shared a poster thanking the fans and the Tamil audiences for giving a warm thumbs up to the film. One of the biggest movies of 2019 is Thalapathy Vijay's Bigil. This movie, starring Vijay in the lead, was directed by Atlee and produced by AGS Entertainment. Bigil had Vijay in dual roles, that of father and son, with Nayanthara playing the female lead. This 63rd movie of Vijay's career, had a lot of expectations on it, right from the time it was announced. The excitement kept building into a crescendo till the movie hit the screens for Deepavali 2019! This sports action drama was made on a massive budget of nearly Rs. 180 Crores but broke Box Office collections across the world, and this movie has also become the highest grosser of Kollywood in 2019.

Now, after all these, Bigil has gotten yet another honour. With this year ending now, quite a few lists are being made and one such made by a leading online ticket booking portal, is for the Top 10 Trending Indian movies which people showed maximum interest in, across the country for 2019. In this list of all Indian movies, Bigil is the top Tamil movie and the proudly takes the third place on the list! Top of the list is one of the top movies across the world - Avengers: Endgame, which brought an end to most of the the characters in the Avengers world. Second on the list is the multi-lingual Saaho, which had Prabhas and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead. Unfortunately, this mega budget movie did not do as well as expected at the theatres.

On this list of movies which people showed most interest in, two other Tamil movies made it to the Top 10! Thala Ajith's Viswasam made it to Number 8 while Superstar Rajinikanth's Petta came in at Number 10! Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff's Hindi movie made it to Number 4 while the Hollywood movie Captain Marvel took 5th place. Megastar Chiranjeevi's historical magnum opus Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy came in at #6 and yet another Marvel movie Spiderman: Far From Home came in at No. 7! Salman Khan's recent release Dabanng 3, made up the Top 10, coming in at No. 9! Bigil making it to the third place on this Top 10 list shows the magnitude of this movie's success!

It is undeniable that Thala Ajith is a demi-god for his fans and they celebrate him as one of their own family members! He has die-hard fans across different walks of life and is one of the most celebrated gentlemen in Tamil cinema. KJR Studios have established themselves as a reputed production and distribution banner in recent times. On the production front, they kicked off their journey in 2017 with the Nayanthara starrer, Aramm, which went on to earn both critical and commercial success. After Aramm, KJR Studios went on to make Gulaebaghavali with Prabhu Deva, Airaa once again with Nayanthara and are at all set to bring to theatres their upcoming project, Hero, starring Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role. They also are at present developing Santhanam’s Dikkiloona in association with Balloon director Sinish’s Soldier Factory banner and also have a few more projects lined up in terms of production. However, the biggest success for KJR Studios was earlier this year when they ventured into distribution with ‘Thala’ Ajith’s blockbuster rural family drama, Viswasam, and are all set to bring Salman Khan’s upcoming biggie, Dabanng 3, in theatres alongside their Hero. Having said that, KJR Studios have unveiled their next film titled, Aalambana, will feature Vaibhav and Parvatii Nair as the lead pair along with Munishkanth in a supporting role.

KJR Studios’ Aalambana in association with Koustubh Entertainment will be directed by debutant filmmaker Pari K. Vijay with music by Hiphop Tamizha, Vinoth Rathinasamy for cinematography, editing by San Lokesh and stunts by Peter Hein. T. Ezhumalaiyan is serving as the Executive Producer while P. Chandra is the Creative Producer on the film, which will be distributed across the world by KJR Studios. With the film now officially a go, the production and distribution house will now be looking forward to carry forward their momentum with Aalambana as well especially after their 2019 turned out to be a fruitful year so far after distributing Viswasam.
