By Vivek Raj | Galatta | 05:04 PM
Director Rathna Kumar made heads in the Tamil film industry with his directorial debut Meyaadha Maan in 2017. The rom-com starring Vaibhav, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Indhuja and Vivek Prasanna went on to be well-received among fans, with the film turning out to be a box-office hit. Post the success of Meyaadha Maan, the filmmaker took a complete 360 degree turn with his next film, Aadai, which was an intense thriller, with Amala Paul delivering a power-packed performance. The icing on the cake, however, for Rathna came last year when he was announced to be coming on board 'Thalapathy' Vijay's upcoming film, Master, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj in which he served as a co-writer.
Rathna Kumar, who is an outspoken fan of Vijay, has this time shared a childhood picture of himself along with his siblings posing with the actor, who was shooting for his 1998 romantic psychological thriller film, Priyamudan. Vijay was seen in an anti-hero role, with accolades pouring his way, including the film turning out to be a critical and commercial success. Below is the picture shared by director Rathna Kumar on his Instagram page:
Coming back to Master, XB Film Creators banner surprised fans on Friday by releasing the long-awaited 'Quit Pannuda' song lyric video on the occasion of composer Anirudh Ravichander's birthday. The Master album has turned out to be a phenomenal success, with Anirudh churning out hit numbers once again for a Vijay film after the 2014 box office blockbuster, Kaththi. The 'Quit Pannuda' song's lyric video has already crossed 2 million views on YouTube in less than 24 hours of its release and is going strong, proving once again that the upcoming Vijay film is without a doubt the most-anticipated in recent times.
As for the release of Master, producer Xavier Britto and director Lokesh Kanagaraj have assured fans that the film will only see a theatrical release and not be coming out directly on any OTT platform as was being speculated sometime back. Billed to be an mass masala action thriller, the film will see Vijay facing off 'Makkal Selvan' Vijay Sethupathi, who is the antagonist. The Ka Pae Ranasingam actor had recently revealed that he plays a cruel villain, who is dreaded by many. Master also includes Malavika Mohanan as the female lead, followed by Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Arjun Das, Andrea Jeremiah, Gouri Kishan, Master Mahendran, KPY Dheena, Ramya Subramanian, Azhagam Perumal among others forming the supporting cast.

A film that has sky-high expectations surrounding it right from its announcement last year, 'Thalapathy' Vijay's Master directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj under the XB Film Creators banner was slated to hit screens on April 9, but was indefinitely postponed in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. As the COVID-19 situation is yet to subside, fans have been waiting for an update in regard to the film. Prior to the pandemic, the team had released the Master album composed by Anirudh Ravichander, which has since then received an astounding response, with the songs continuing to top the charts.
Promotions were being carried out at an aggressive pace by XB Film Creators right up until the COVID-19 outbreak, with lyric videos for the songs, including stills and posters from Master being released on a frequent basis. The only treat Vijay fans had gotten over the past few months was on the superstar's birthday in June when a special poster from the film was released. Having said that, the makers have finally now released the much-awaited 'Quit Pannuda' song lyric video dedicated to Anirudh, who is celebrating his birthday today. The 'Quit Pannuda' song sung by Anirudh to lyrics penned by Vignesh Shivn is the pick of the album for many in Master as it shows the composer’s skills in top form.
Master is the second time Anirudh has delivered chart-busters after the 2014 box office blockbuster, Kaththi. Fans were delighted when it was announced that Vijay would be teaming up with Tamil cinema's 'Rockstar', who has once again lived up to the expectations by coming out with yet another smash success album.
Apart from Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi, Master also includes Malavika Mohanan as the female lead followed by Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Arjun Das, Andrea Jeremiah, Gouri Kishan, Master Mahendran, KPY Dheena, Ramya Subramanian, Azhagam Perumal among others in the supporting cast. There had been a talk that the film might release on the OTT platform medium, which the makers have since gone on to deny saying it deserves to be watched only on the big screen. Master is a masterpiece - Vijay Sethupathi's review leaves Thalapathy fans happy
By Vivek Raj | Galatta | 05:15 PM
A film that was initially scheduled to hit screens on April 9 earlier this year, 'Thalapathy' Vijay's Master's theatrical release has since been put on hold by XB Film Creators, in view of the coronavirus pandemic crisis. With the COVID-19 outbreak yet to be properly contained in Tamil Nadu, including India and the rest of the world, the wait for the highly-anticipated film's release is bound to continue for some more time. There were speculations a while back that the film could make its way to screen this Diwali in November, but no official word has been issued in regard to it, with some stating it will come out in theatres as a Pongal 2021 release. Director Lokesh Kanagaraj during a recent event held by Vijay fans clubs spoke to the media and quashed the rumors that there were plans to release Master directly on the OTT platforms.
Meanwhile, 'Makkal Selvan' Vijay Sethupathi, who plays the antagonist in Master, had recently in an interview for his latest release Ka Pae Ranasingam opposite Aishwarya Rajesh, had spoken about his role in the upcoming 'Thalapathy' Vijay starrer. He provided a philosophical reply and said that people will have a lot of dirt inside them, which they will not be able to let out. But, by playing a villain, he has gotten to do just that. As an actor, he is able to express his anger that one would usually control, and is what he has done in his role as a ruthless villain. He also stated that he enjoyed the role, while adding that fans will be completely satisfied when they witness Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi together on the screen. He concluded saying the film has come out very well and that Master is a masterpiece. Check out the video below:
The hype surrounding Master has not dimmed down despite the coronavirus crisis considering the audio released a few days before the lockdown is still topping the charts.

By Arvind Sundaram | Galatta | 01:53 PM
Thalapathy Vijay is currently waiting for the release of his next film, Master which is slated to release in theatres after the pandemic. This Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial is expected to be quite different from the usual style of Vijay films and it is expected to have a grand opening at the box office. The theatre owners have pinned high hopes on Master and let us hope that we get to see the film as soon as possible after the pandemic. Post Master, Vijay is most likely to team up with director A.R.Murugadoss for Thalapathy 65 and the fans are highly excited about the project.
Various rumours have been going on social media for the past few months regarding the project. Having said that, a section of the media reported that Thalapathy 65 could probably be the sequel of Thuppakki. However, A.R.Murugadoss has denied the speculation, adding that he will not do a sequel to his movies as it would limit the possibilities of exploring a new topic. In one of his recent Facebook live interactions, Murugadoss was asked if Thalapathy 65 will be the sequel of Thuppakki.
The blockbuster director said, “Not just Thuppakki, be it any film’s sequel, it will limit the flow of the story and we cannot explore beyond a point. When there is a fresh story and a new premise, you can explore and write scenes well. There were reports on a few websites saying that there are title problems for making a sequel, but that is not true. In a general perspective, it is just a creative decision to work on fresh scripts. But, a proper announcement regarding anything about the project should come only from the production house and that will only be right”.
This update from Murugadoss has made the fans happy and it has gone viral on social media. Thalapathy 65 will mark Vijay - A.R.Murugadoss’ fourth time collaboration after the blockbuster success of Thuppakki, Kaththi and Sarkar. Just IN: AR Murugadoss' official statement on Thalapathy 65 announcement
By Galatta | 06:03 PM
It is certain that AR Murugadoss will be directing Vijay’s next film after Bigil. This untitled film would be Vijay’s 65th film, hence it is tentatively called as Thalapathy 65 for now. This big budget entertainer will be producer by Sun Pictures. AR Murugadoss took part in a live chat session earlier today during which the anchor had asked him if the news about Sun Pictures producing his next film which would star Vijay in the lead. AR Murugadoss did not deny the news but at the same time, he did not reveal much. This is what the diretor had to say about Thalapathy 65: “First, I need to make it clear that Vijay is no longer Ilayathalapathy, that phase is long gone, he is now called Thalapathy in Tamil Nadu. Maybe, since he still looks very young, some still refer him as Ilayathalapathy. The film is produced by a very big banner, and they would make the announcement in a proper fashion. I don’t think, it will be correct on my part to comment about the project before the production house makes the news official. So, I can talk about the film, only after a proper announcement is made by the production house. I don’t have anything to say about the project at the moment. But we can soon expect a proper announcement for sure.”
AR Murugadoss hasn’t had the best of the times of late and he would like to get back into winning ways soon. His 2012 movie Thuppakki is till date, one of the biggest blockbusters in the career of Thalapathy Vijay. This movie, which saw Vijay playing the role of a Military Police officer, was produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu, under his V Creations banner. Directed by AR Murugadoss, Thuppakki marked the first time collaboration between the filmmaker and Thalapathy Vijay. Following the massive success of Thuppakki the director-actor combo came together once again in 2014, to make Kaththi. This movie, which saw Thalapathy Vijay in dual roles, again went on to become a blockbuster hit and catapulted the combo to greater heights. AR Murugadoss and Vijay again joined hands for the 2018 movie Sarkar, which turned out to complete a hattrick of successes for the duo. Now this deadly combo is ready to strike once again for the fourth time.
