The upcoming film has been carrying tremendous buzz right from the get-go and the promotional material released so far has received a thumping response from all quarters. Suriya, who unveiled a special poster for Kanguva last month on the occasion of Pongal, featured him in two different looks. As we started shooting, the canvas revealed itself and it kept getting bigger and bigger. And, every character in the film has got its own weight and it needs to be explored and established in depth and in detail. We can’t justify it in one part. So, we took a decision to tell this story and show this big canvas in two parts. The story won't change in shape but will thrive in scale. So, I'm here to share the news that one of the biggest canvases ever of Devara will be done in two parts and April 5th is just the beginning."

Suriya is celebrating his birthday today (July 23) and the much-awaited Kanguva glimpse is now out as a special treat for the leading Tamil actor-producer's ardent fans everywhere. The film directed by Siva is produced by K. E. Gnanavel Raja's Studio Green in association with Vamsi-Pramod UV Creations banner and the team is leaving no stone unturned in making their venture a grand visual feast that is not to be missed in theatres in early 2024. With the Kanguva glimpse continuing to be the talk of the town, we now look at the top 5 major highlights from the first visuals of the film showing Suriya in peak action mode as a fierce warrior.

FIERY SURIYA AS THE WARRIOR KANGAA

Right off the bat, the Kanguva glimpse establishes the seeds for a powerful introduction for Suriya, with various fictional elements describing him to be a legendary warrior. In these first visuals from the film, we see him being hailed as "the bloodline of Maaraakkan who hoisted the flag on the seabed" and coming "from the lineage of Kochaami who felled a mighty tusker" denoting that he has scaled several mighty peaks on the battlefield to hoist the flag of his Kochaami kingdom/clan. The next line in the verses, "as the heir of Ilamban who vanquished a famine" and "the grandson of Thangaiyan who tore apart a mountain" describe his roots and heritage, and the glory of his family descent.

The Kanguva glimpse then gives a heads-up to Suriya's marvelous feats on the battlefield as the one who ended the reign of the "evil Chachaangan", while going on to scale the "peaks of Mandaiyaar and capture a cloud". His exploits as a fierce warrior are once again affirmed as he is revealed to have become a predator taking down "a white tiger" from above the trees and also one who will "sow fear in the foes on the isle of Arathi". Suriya is then praised as the "one and only one Kangaa", the 'Son of Fire' who has mounted the "wild elephant of Mukkadu and ridden it all around."

THE HISTORY OF KANGUVA

We get a basic idea about the various plot elements in the world of Kanguva with the glimpse starting off with a ravaged landscape to the narration by Arunraja Kamaraj. The voice-over presents us with the history of the world in which Suriya as Kangaa and the various clans have been battling against one another. Although not many details are revealed about their ongoing war, we know that Suriya as Kangaa comes in as the heir of Ilamban and from a lineage whose father Sendhee and grandfather Thangaiyan have also accomplished grand feats.

We also hear about Suriya's exploits on the battlefield having taken down the evil Chachaangan, while also turning a predator to maul a white tiger and ride the wild elephant of Mukkadu. He is also described as one who has sown the seeds of fear among those on the Isle of Arathi, while scaling the peaks of Mandaiyaar and reaching new heights by touching the clouds. The introduction of the world of Kanguva is a lavish feast for fans of the fantasy genre and this latest glimpse also promises us that there's a rich history waiting to be witnessed on the screens in early 2024.

AWE-INSPIRING MAKING

Based on the visuals in the Kanguva glimpse, we have gotten to witness the grand scale at which the film is being made and K. E. Gnanavel Raja's Studio Green and Vamsi-Pramod's UV Creations are surely not holding back to present a visual spectacle of epic proportions akin to global standards. A fantasy action-driven film set in the feudal set-up is not a common occurrence in Tamil cinema and Kanguva sure takes the cherry on the cake.

SIVA AND TEAM'S HUGE TOIL

Undoubtedly, Kanguva is the biggest and most-challenging venture, Suriya, Siva, and the entire team have worked on and the results can be seen in each and every frame in the glimpse released. Be it the grand sets created by art director Milan, the intricacies in the costumes by Anu Vardhan and Dhatsha Pillai along with Rajan with makeup by Kuppusamy, the visual definition in the action sequences created by Supreme Sundar, and the scale and scope of the world-building by dialogue writer Madan Karky and writer Adi Narayana, the Kanguva glimpse is a rocking visual punch picturized with finesse by Vetri Palanisamy and edited with nuance by Nishad Yusuf to director's epic vision that will no doubt go down in history books as one of the most ambitious films in the history of Tamil cinema.

DSP'S THUNDEROUS SCORE

And finally, 'Rockstar' Devi Sri Prasad's power-packed background score is definitely the icing on the cake as it not only complements the efforts of the Kanguva team but propels the visuals to a greater plane. The film is the chart-buster composer's big comeback to Tamil cinema after almost 5 years and he is definitely back with a bang as more will be expected of him to deliver a chart-topping album along with a thunderous background score when the film releases next year.

'Superstar' Rajinikanth's Jailer is gearing up for a massive worldwide release on August 10 and blockbuster production banner Sun Pictures is expected to kickstart the promotions in the days ahead. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and featuring music composed by 'Rockstar' Anirudh Ravichander, the film touted to be a mass action comedy also includes stunt choreography by Stun Siva, who recently sat down with Galatta to talk about the fight sequences in the upcoming biggie, while also sharing his own experiences of working with Rajinikanth over the course of his career.

Upon being asked about the Rajinikanth fans will get to witness in Jailer, Stun Siva said, "The first time I saw sir was during the shooting of Garjanai in 1981. After that, I worked with him on Pandiyan, Yajaman, Mannan, and a few other films. I then composed all the fight sequences for Muthu such as the chariot and the whiplash action scenes. Since I'm his fan, I understood how to compose the fights for him. Now, I've taught my son Kevin the same and we both have composed the fight scenes in Jailer. When a fan does the fight sequences for his favorite hero, how will that be? You'll witness that in this film." He continued, "We have to learn what style is from him. Not just us, but many other heroes in cinema. So, when we're composing the fight scenes for him, we've done them in such a manner that he himself was surprised. I can't speak much about those sequences now, but the film has come out extraordinarily well. The climax is on a whole different level."

Speaking about the action in Nelson Dilipkumar's films and how they've worked on something different in Jailer, Stun Siva stated, "When I watched Kolamaavu Kokila, I felt that I should work with this director because I liked the film a lot. Be it the poster or the film's trailer and its title, which was completely different, I called Nelson sir as expressed my wish to work with him. He was working on Beast at the time. I couldn't be a part of that film and Anbariv fight masters were overseeing the action sequences. But, he said we'll work on the next project and called me one day suddenly to tell me that he was doing a film with Rajini sir and wanted me to the fight master. It was all a matter of time since I like the director a lot and I'm a fan of Rajini sir. The film will have Nelson sir's stamp and at the same time a lot of action."

Ponniyin Selvan 2 which is called the Magnum Opus of Mani Ratnam and has created history became the highest-grossing Tamil Film of the year in three weeks of release. The film has a huge cast that includes, Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi and others in pivotal roles. It was bankrolled by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies. The film is based on the epic novel written by Kalki about the Chola Empire. The film also has music by Oscar Award winning composer A.R. Rahman

Siva Ananth, the executive producer of Madras Talkies that bankrolled Ponniyin Selvan 1 and 2, sat down for an exclusive interview with national award-winning film critic Baradwaj Rangan, the editor-in-chief of Galatta Plus. When asked about how and when director Mani Ratnam began making the film. The producer said it began many years ago. because around 1990, a Kamal Haasan interview came out about Ponniyin Selvan that it should be directed by Mani Ratnam. He said that is when he read the book and that is when he knew the director wanted to make it into a film. “Then when I joined him in 1998, He said No, I don’t know if this will happen. In 2003 we made an attempt, with screenplay and talked about casting but left it at that. In 2007, when I Joined Mr. Kamal, I asked about this, he said 'no, it has its own narrative issues and challenges'. In 2010, we made a big attempt because Jeyamohan was ropped in as a writer. And we went for six days across the Thanjai belt with Mani Ratnam. It was a great journey, in which we started Pattipulam from there through the Kaveri belt, and we talked about Chola history, Ponniyin Selvan and everything. That time, we thought about how Kalki would have thought while writing the story. Before, it could be mounted we dropped the film. So if you look at it for nearly 30 years ,he wanted to make this film. Probably, even before that when he read the book itself, he could have thought of making it into a film so that way it's a dream that has been there for three decades", said the producer Siva Ananth.

"In 2018, after we finished Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, sir worked on another script and when he came back, he said we are doing Ponniyin Selvan next. But immediately it was challenging. Then we talked and decided to make it into a two-part film. Because there were many challenges in the film on the creative side and we could not finish the story in three hours. That defined the production style." revealed the producer.
