Subramaniapuram is a critically acclaimed cult classic film that was released in 2008. It introduced many young talents to the Tamil film industry, including director of the film Sasikumar. The second film of the director was Eesan. National award-winning film critic, Baradwaj Rangan, the editor-in-chief of Galatta Plus, did an exclusive interview with the director recently. He shared some interesting details about the making of the film. The director shared that initially, he thought of directing one film and acting in one film but, due to some financial reasons, he had to continue acting in films.

When Baradwaj Rangan was asked why he continued to be dark after he began directing though he was good with comedy, Sasikumar said many close associates including James Vasanthan have been nudging him to do a comedy film because, from his school days, he used to do comedy dramas. "Because I took the first film in that genre, I felt I should do those kind of films", he said. The director revealed that after Subramaniapuram, he wanted a film that also had rowdyism set in Madurai. The director said after he finished Nadodigal, many films like that had come, and so he took Eesan. He said, "What happened with Eesan was that it’s a story that should have been said after 10 years, but I spoke about it early. Pubs and bars were not that popular, and many did not know what a rave party was." He said that he did the research for the film for one month, went to Mumbai and Bangalore, and there it was present; But, it was not there in Chennai. "What I saw there, I said in the film. Party culture was not there in Chennai then, but now It's increasing," said the director. "Because, I did the film it early, we made it lengthy, I did not have time, and all these things happened. I think I should have made the film now because of the situation in the present", he said.

Sasikumar then said he did not take time to do Eesan like Subramaniapuram, and there were expectations. The director added that when the release date was announced, he had to move faster because of the release date. "After release, I thought I should remove these scenes. In Subramaniapuram, I fixed it's time as 2 hours, that confidence, I did not have in Eesan. and I should have corrected it." said the director of Subramaniapuram. Watch full interview here:

But his father is there, and we can do the film.' I said it as a comedy about what would have happened if Thulasi (character played by Swathi) had gotten married, and the death of my character was not revealed, so let's show that he is alive.
