Samuthirakani is a well-known filmmaker who has also acted in many Tamil language films. He has been a part of many hit films in multiple languages and this year along he acted in Ajith Kumar's starter film Thunivu, 'Thalapathy' Vijay's father's Naan Kadavul Illai, Thalaikoothal and the recent Dhanush flim Vaathi/Sir and the Telugu film that has Nani in the lead role Dasara. The next project of the director-turned-actor has been announced with the critically acclaimed director Nandha Periyasamy. The filmmaker show made his debut with the film Oru Kalluriyin Kathai. He recently wrote the Hindi film Rashmi Rocket which featured popular actress Taapsee Pannu in the lead role. He also won an award for the film. 

A recent report from the makers of Samuthirakani's next the film has stated that it was launched with a Pooja ceremony today and that it will be a thriller. The makers have said that the film will also feature Naadodigal fame Ananya, veteran director Bharathiraja and Nassar in lead roles. The makers have also said that the film will be a racy thriller that also has elements that instigate feelings of humanism. They have also said that the filming will happen in Megamalai, Kumili and Munnar along the Kerala border of Tamil Nadu in a single schedule. Vishal Chandrasekhar who melted the hearts of listeners with his songs in the blockbuster film Seetha Ramam is set to compose music for the film. The songs will have lyrics penned by lyricist Ilango Krishnan, Director Rajumurugan and Snehan. The makers have tentatively titled the film as Production No:1 and more updates about the film will be released soon.

Samuthirakani has an interesting lineup of filming as he is said to be a part of Kamal Haasan's next film Indian 2 and Ram Charan’s Game Changer. The director is also remaking his recent directorial film Vinodhaya Sitham in Telugu.

Sasikumar's rural family entertainer MGR Magan is all set for a grand premiere on DisneyPlus Hotstar on November 4 on the festive occasion of Diwali. Directed by Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam and Rajini Murugan fame Ponram under the Screen Scene Media Entertainment Pvt Ltd banner, promotions have kicked off, with the team on Saturday releasing the much-awaited MGR Magan trailer, which features Sasikumar alongside some of the other big names in the film among whom include veteran actor Sathyaraj and Samuthirakani. 

The MGR Magan trailer is a fun-filled package of entertainment, with the story set around Sasikumar amidst a rural backdrop and Sathyaraj playing the role of his father, while Samuthirakani is playing a cousin to them. The trailer starts off with the relationship between Sasikumar, Sathyaraj and Samuthirakani and the fun interactions between the trio. We next see the romance between Sasikumar and Mirnalini Ravi, who became known among Tamil cinema fans after her debut in the hit, Super Deluxe. The MGR Magan trailer then progresses to introduce Sarkar villain Pala. Karuppiah into the story and the reason for his conflict with Sasikumar and Sathyaraj. Likewise, Saranya Ponvannan, Nandita Swetha, Singampuli, Mottai Rajendran, Ramachandran will also be appearing in pivotal roles in the film. 

MGR Magan is Sasikumar's second direct OTT release film after Udanpirappe, which came out recently on Amazon Prime Video. Touted to be an entertaining commercial film, the film also includes a talented technical team starting with the music composed by popular singer Anthony Daasan, followed by Vinoth Rathinasamy handling the cinematography, Vivek Harshan taking care of the editing and art direction by Durai Raj. Udanpirappe is an upcoming Tamil family drama that stars Jyotika and Sasikumar in the lead roles and interestingly, Udanpirappe is Jyotikas 50th film. Produced by Suriya's 2D Entertainment, Udanpirappe's star cast also includes the likes of Samuthirakani, Soori, Kalaiyarasan, Vela Ramamoorthy, Aadukalam Naren, Nivedhithaa Sathish, and others. Udanpirappe will have a direct OTT release on Amazon Prime Video on October 14 and it will be Jyotika's second direct OTT film after Ponmagal Vandhal. With just 10 days there for the film's release, the makers unveiled the official trailer of Udanpirappe which has now grabbed the attention of the netizens.

The trailer looks quite interesting and it looks like the film will be a heartwarming emotional family drama. Sasikumar and Jyotika play siblings in the film and the duo's respective makeovers look interesting. Samuthirakani plays Jyotika's husband and he plays a subtle character. The trailer gives us a brief glimpse of the film's premise and it looks to be a potential winner, especially among the family audience. From what we see, it looks like the story of Udanpirappe will revolve around the characters of Sasikumar and Jyotika.

If the emotions in the film work well and strike a chord with the audience, we can definitely expect Udanpirappe to have a wide viewership on Amazon Prime Video. Udanpirappe showcases Jyotika in a completely new dimension as it has been quite a long time since we saw the ace actress in a full-fledged rural film. Udanpirappe is directed by Era Saravanan who earlier made the critically acclaimed film, Kathukutty. The film has music composed by D Imman, while the cinematography and editing are taken care of by R Velraj and Ruben respectively.

Popular young director Halitha Shameem hit the jackpot with her romantic anthology film, Sillu Karupatti, in 2019 and has since made a name for herself as a talent to reckon. Halitha made heads turn with Sillu Karupatti, which had Samuthirakani, Sunainaa, Manikandan K, Nivedhithaa Sathish, Kravmaga Sreeram, Leela Samson, Sara Arjun, and Rahul in the lead roles, with the film turning out to be a critical and commercial success. Since then, Halitha 's next film, Aelay, which has her reuniting with Samuthirakani and Manikandan, had been announced for a worldwide theatrical release on February 12. 

A joint collaboration between Wallwatcher Films Production, Sashikanth's Y Not Studios and Reliance Entertainment, Aelay's release saw a sudden turnaround at the last moment earlier this week. Aelay, which has Vikram Vedha director duo Pushkar-Gayathri serving as the creative producers, has now been announced to be skipping its theatrical release and will instead be premiering directly on Vijay TV on February 28, 2021. Taking to their social media pages, Y Not Studios on Thursday made an announcement saying Aelay will have an exclusive world premiere on February 28 (Sunday) at 3PM on Vijay TV.

Aelay's story revolves around Samuthirakani and his life and death, with Manikandan playing his son in the film. The rural family entertainer will showcase the life story of Samuthirakani's character in a span of 15 years till his 50s, with the narrative including several fun moments and a lot of emotions. 

Young director Halitha Shameem made heads turn in the Tamil film industry in her debut venture, Poovarasam Peepee, in 2014. With the film fetching her immense praise, Halitha hit the jackpot with her next, Sillu Karuppatti, released in 2019. The romantic anthology film starring Samuthirakani, Sunainaa, Manikandan K, Nivedhithaa Sathish, Kravmaga Sreeram, Leela Samson, Sara Arjun, and Rahul surprised many and turned out to be a critical and commercial success. In that light, Halitha is back with her next, Aelay, which has her reuniting with Samuthirakani and Manikandan, with the film's trailer now out and promises to be a heartwarming family drama.

We get to see a lively Samuthirakani and his life as an ice cream vendor in the Manjunayakanpatti village in Dindigul district, where the entire film was shot on a single schedule. It is said that the film will showcase the life story of Samuthirakani's character in a span of 15 years till his 50s, with the narrative including several fun moments and a lot of emotions. 

Apart from Samuthirakani and Manikandan, Aelay has Madhumathi playing a pivotal role, with the film's technical crew featuring names like Kaber Vasuki and Aruldev scoring the music, Theni Eswar for the cinematography, editing by Raymond Derrick Crasta and Halitha Shameem, art direction by Vinoth Rajkumar and Dinesh Subbarayan for the stunt choreography. Initially planned for a theatrical release on August 27, 2020, Aelay was pushed back owing to the pandemic situation. There will be plenty of expectations for Aelay, especially after Halitha's Sillu Karuppatti turned out to be a surprise hit. The filmmaker will be looking to hit it out of the park once again with her Aelay and based on the visuals and the feel good story teased in the trailer we can be rest assured the film will leave us smiling once again.

National Award-winning director Vetri Maaran's last outing, Asuran, went on to become the biggest blockbuster in the ace filmmaker's career and he will next be teaming up with Suriya for Vaadivaasal to be produced under Kalaipuli S. Thanu's V Creations banner and, also a project marking comedian's Soori's debut as a hero being produced by Elred Kumar's RS Infotainment. Apart from his upcoming directorials, Vetri Maaran has also produced his long-time associate, Manimaaran's Sangathalaivan, which has Samuthirakani in the lead role.

Sangathalaivan has been produced by Manimaaran under Vetri Maaran's Grassroot Film Company in association with Udaya Kumar and Geetha Udaya Kumar's Uday Productions featuring Ramya Subramanian and Karunaas in major supporting roles. Sangathalaivan is Manimaaran's third directorial after Udhayam NH4 with Siddharth and Pugazh starring Jai and includes music by Robert Sargunam, cinematography by Srinivas Devamsam, editing by G.B.Venkatesh, lyrics penned by Yugabharathi and Uma Devi, art direction by R.K.Vijay Murugan, stunts by Dinesh Subbarayan and choreography by Style Bala.

Director Subramaniam Siva who is a close friend of Dhanush and director Vetri Maaran, has made films like Thiruda Thirudi, Yogi, and Seedan. His next directorial release would be Vellai Yaanai, an interesting film starring Samuthirakani and Yogi Babu in the lead roles. Produced by S Vinod Kumar under the banner of Mini Studios, Vellai Yaanai’s star cast also includes Athmiya (female lead), E.Ramadoss, SS Stanley, Bava Chelladurai, and others. The makers have released the second single from the film and this song is called ‘Aara Thedum’.

Composed and crooned by Santhosh Narayanan, this song is penned by director Rajumurugan. Santhosh Narayanan is a composer who is known for his unique compositions and this number is no exception. His voice gives a different flavour to the song and it has been well received by the listeners. The film’s cinematography is handled by Vishnu Rangasamy while Dinesh Subbarayan has taken care of the stunt department.

The action thriller, Kaappaan, has been one film Suriya fans have been highly excited about ever since it was announced in early 2018 with Lyca Productions still carrying forward promotions at an active pace. Directed by KV Anand, Kaappaan hit screens on September 20 and featured some of the biggest stars from South India and chartbuster music by composer Harris Jayaraj. With the film now running in theatres, the fifth deleted scene from Kaappaan titled 'Recce' has now been released and is centered around Suriya and Samuthirakani, who are seen inspecting locations for the Indian Prime Minister played by Mohanlal to address a public gathering.

Lyca Productions have been releasing plenty of promotional material for Kaappaan apart from the five deleted scenes and includes the ‘Siriki’ video song, which has gone on to receive a stellar response as well. Kaappaan features a massive star cast among whom include Sayyeshaa as the female lead followed by Mohanlal, Arya, Samuthirakani, Shamna Kasim, Boman Irani in supporting roles and Chirag Jani playing the antagonist. This is the third time Suriya, KV Anand and Harris Jayaraj are coming back for a film after their previous ventures, Ayan and Maattrraan.

Esteemed production house Sun Pictures’ next big film being prepped for a theatrical release on September 27 is the upcoming Sivakarthikeyan starrer, Namma Veettu Pillai. The director Pandiraj and composer D. Imman combo are returning once again after their blockbuster outing last year with Karthi’s Kadaikutty Singam. Sun Pictures will be looking to strike gold big time at the box office for the fourth time on the trot after their previous ventures namely ‘Superstar’ Rajinikanth starrers Enthiran and Petta and ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay’s Sarkar. A rural family entertainer, the makers of Namma Veettu Pillai have now released the ‘Jigiri Dosthu’ song featured on Samuthirakani and RK Suresh with vocals by Puduvaisithan Jayamoorthy and Anthakudi Ilayaraja and lyrics by Arunraja Kamaraj.

Namma Veettu Pillai stars Sivakarthikeyan and Aishwarya Rajesh as siblings while Anu Emmanuel is playing the female lead followed by an ensemble supporting cast among whom are veteran filmmaker Bharathiraja, Samuthirakani, cinematographer turned actor Natarajan Subramaniam, RK Suresh, comedians Yogi Babu and Soori in vital roles. Bigg Boss 3 fame Meera Mitun too will be making a special appearance in the film which includes cinematography by Nirav Shah and editing by Ruben.

The upcoming romantic film, Sillu Karupatti, featuring Samuthirakani, Sunainaa, Kaala fame Manikandan, Leela Samson, Baby Sara among others has been directed by Halitha Shameen known for her work in Poovarasan Pee Pee with the film revolving around four different love stories.

Sillu Karupatti was supposed to be last year and is expected to release soon. That said, a video song featuring the four lead pairs named “Agam Thaanai” penned by Halitha Shameen herself under Pradeep Kumar of Maya Nadhi and Kannama fame scoring the music while also singing the vocals has been released and can be viewed below:
