Yogi Babu's Pei Mama Official Trailer | Rajinikanth's Petta Spoof | Shakthi Chidambaram
By Arvind Sundaram | Galatta | 06:08 PM
Yogi Babu is a busy actor in Tamil cinema who has various exciting projects in his line up and one among those happens to be Pei Mama. The first look poster of Pei Mama was released a few weeks before and it received a good response from the netizens. The audio launch also happened at a private hotel and it became the first audio launch to happen in Tamil cinema after the lockdown and pandemic. The audio launch event was graced by notable film and political personalities from the state. Having said that, the makers have now released the official trailer of the film which seems to be catered to the mainstream family audience.
Yogi Babu's intro shot in the trailer is a spoof of Rajinikanth's mass intro shot from Karthik Subbaraj's Petta and the film is likely to have more spoof comedies. Though the trailer doesn't make you invested completely, it has a few moments that would lighten up your mood. There are some interesting contemporary references (for example, Kohli) as well. Yogi Babu is usually known for his one line counters and this film seems to give him that space. Pei Mama is directed by Shakthi Chidambaram who has made films like Ennamma Kannu, Charlie Chaplin, Englishkaran, Vyabari, Sandai, Charlie Chaplin 2, etc.
Through this trailer, the makers have announced that Pei Mama will release only in theatres and not on any digital streaming platforms. The trailer has been released on the official YouTube channel of Lahari Music who owns the film's audio rights. Produced by Vignesh Ealappan under the banner of Bakiya Cinemass, Pei Mama has cinematography by MV Panneerselvam, music by Gurkha fame Raj Aryan, editing by Preetham, and dialogues by Rajagopal. The film's post-production works are happening in full swing.
It can be recalled that Pei Mama was initially supposed to have Vaigai Puyal Vadivelu as the lead and we even saw an unofficial poster doing rounds on social media. However, things did not materialize as planned and later Yogi Babu replaced Vadivelu. Pei Mama is Yogi Babu's next outing as a protagonist after Dharma Prabhu and Gurkha. As far as Yogi Babu's lineup of films is concerned, it includes Thala Ajith's Valimai, Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha, Dhanush's Karnan, Santhanam's Dikkiloona, G.V.Prakash's Adangathey, Vishnu Vishal's Jagajala Killadi, director Manikandan's Kadaisi Vivasayi, Sunaina's Trip, Vemal's Kanni Raasi, Samuthirakani's Vellai Yaanai, etc. Yogi Babu will be seen playing the lead role in debutant Madonne Ashwin's Mandela and Kirumi fame director Anucharan's Panni Kutty. For now, check out the trailer of Pei Mama here:

Karthik Subbaraj explains the budget differences between Petta and Dhanush 40!
By Vivek Raj | Galatta | 10:18 AM
Director Karthik Subbaraj went on taste blockbuster success last year with his Petta, which he has termed on numerous occasions to be a dream come true as it had his favorite actor, 'Superstar' Rajinikanth in the lead role. Post the triumph of Petta, the Iraivi director has been busy shooting for his upcoming film, tentatively titled, D40, with Dhanush in the lead role.
Karthik Subbaraj's D40 with Dhanush is a gangster film set predominantly in the United Kingdom and also includes Malayalam actress Aishwarya Lekshmi playing the female lead followed by National Award-winning actor Joju George, Kalaiyarasan, Sanchana Natarajan, Super Deluxe fame Ashwanth Ashok Kumar among others in starring roles with music by Santhosh Narayanan under S. Sashikanth's Y Not Studios banner. With the film's title yet to be announced, Karthik Subbaraj had recently sat down with Galatta for an exclusive interview where he shared many unknown details about his previous films while also speaking about the shooting process of D40.
Speaking about D40, Karthik Subbaraj explained in detail as to how his ongoing film with Dhanush will not be as large in scale as Petta with 'Thalaivar' Rajinikanth. He states, "Making any film basically depends upon its budget. There will be budget constraints for each film that is getting made. If you compare D40 and Petta, the former won't be as large in scale in terms of the budget as the latter. I can't go around saying I want to make this new film like my previous one and can only make do with what I can get due to an allocated budget. For example, if I want to use a balloon light for one day's shoot, there will be quite a lot of pressure to extract the best output on time since it is quite expensive. We will have made plans to shoot a big scene using that balloon light and there will always be concern and impatience to get the scene shot in the time that has been fixed. Bigger budget will always lead to bigger pressure,".
Watch Karthik Subbaraj speak about his D40 with Dhanush and more in the interview below:
