Diwali 2020 turned out to be a delightful affair for a majority of Tamil cinema fans, who got treated to a few new releases in theatres and on the OTT platforms, including the unveiling of a couple of highly-anticipated upcoming film teasers and several new movie announcements. Among the new projects that were launched was Saloon, which is the next directorial of Muthukumaran of last year's comedy entertainer Dharmaprabhu, while he also awaits the release of his Kanni Raasi starring Vemal and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar. Saloon’s biggest USP factors are the inclusion of comedy stars Yogi Babu and 'Mirchi' Shiva in the lead roles and is being produced by Inder Kumar's Redhan The Cinema People,, the  banner behind Arun Vijay's smash hit 2017 action thriller Kuttram 23

Saloon will see Shiva and Yogi Babu reuniting on the big screen once again after they were last seen in Kalakalappu 2 in 2018. However, the upcoming film will see them both in the lead roles and is being touted to be a social comedy entertainer, based on the film launch poster. As of now, no other details on the rest of cast has been made known, with Saloon also including a strong technical team featuring names like Sam CS for the music, lyrics by Yugabharathi, cinematography by Manikandas S, San Lokesh for the editing and art direction by CS Balachander. The launch poster's tagline translated as "All hair is the same" denotes that the film could be laden with a strong social message.

Both Yogi Babu and Shiva have garnered a following of their own for their antics on the big screen and have several projects lined up between each of them. Starting with Shiva, the radio jockey turned actor was last seen in the smash hit Thamizh Padam 2 released in 2018 and is awaiting the release of the long-delayed Venkat Prabhu multi-starrer heist comedy Party. He will also be seen in Sumo produced by Ishari K. Ganesh's Vels Film International, while also recently being announced to be a part of Screen Scene Media Entertainment's horror comedy titled Idiot opposite Nikki Galrani under Rambhala of Lollu Sabha and the Dhilluku Dhuddu films fame.

On the other hand, Yogi Babu has his hands full as he is shuffling his time between his own lead role ventures and films which has him playing vital supporting roles. His long film lineup includes Santhanam's Dikkiloona, Dhanush's Karnan, Siddharth's Shaitan Ka Bachcha, Vijay Sethupathi's Kadaisi Vivasayi, while he is also spearheading ventures like Mandela, Pei Mama, Trip and a few other projects.
