By Vivek Raj | Galatta | 01:32 PM
'Thalapathy' Vijay fans have been on cloud 9 after the release of the actor's upcoming film Master teaser, which came out as a Diwali treat and has been smashing records left and right. The Master teaser is currently the most-liked teaser in India, while also recently becoming the most-liked Indian South India teaser/trailer on YouTube surpassing the earlier record held by Vijay's Bigil trailer. The teaser is incidentally now officially the most-liked Vijay video ever and has also propelled the Sun TV YouTube channel into crossing 10 million (1 crore) subscribers. Having said that, Master directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj under Xavier Britto's XB Film Creators banner and featuring music by Anirudh Ravichander has now added yet another feather to its cap.
It has now been revealed that Master, which has eight songs, has now become the third 'Thalapathy' Vijay movie album to cross 50 million playouts on the popular music streaming platform, Gaana. This latest accomplishment for the Master album is the third occasion for a Vijay film after his Mersal, which has 62 million and last year's Bigil with 58 million playouts respectively. Anirudh's songs in the mass action entertainer have turned out to be chartbusters and is the second time he has delivered a rock solid album after the 2014 box office blockbuster, Kaththi.
Released in March earlier this year, the Master album was the first big promotion for the film, which was initially slated to hit screens on April 9 as a grand summer holiday treat. However, those plans suffered a massive setback after the nationwide lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. As of now, there is a strong talk that the film will hit the screens in early 2021, most likely as a Pongal release in January. Both producer Xavier Britto and director Lokesh Kanagaraj revealed sometime back that Master will only come out in theatres, while adding that it is the only way the film ought to be watched.
Master also includes 'Makkal Selvan' Vijay Sethupathi as the antagonist, with visuals of his showdown with Vijay receiving a thunderous response. There has been immense hype surrounding the film considering both stars enjoy massive fan following. Master will see Malavika Mohanan as the female lead, followed by Andrea Jeremiah, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Arjun Das, Gouri Kishan, Master Mahendran, KPY Dheena, Ramya Subramanian, Azhagam Perumal among others forming the supporting cast.
Tamil Film Producers Council election results announced - Mersal producer Murali Ramasamy wins
By Vivek Raj | Galatta | 11:50 AM
The elections for Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) finally took place in Chennai on November 22 at the Dr MGR Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women, Adyar after there was no elected body of representatives for over a year. With the TFPC elections held on Sunday in a smooth manner and as many as 1,050 votes being reportedly cast, the results were announced on Monday, with Murali Ramasamy of Thenandal Films being declared the winner with 557 votes. Multi-talented veteran director-producer-actor T. Rajendar has lost his position and had secured a total of 388 votes, while reputed producer PL Thenappan garnered 87 votes. Reports say actors namely Rajinikanth, Dhanush, director Bharathiraja, producer AVM Saravanan, singer SP Charan did not cast their votes.
The stage for battle in this year's Tamil Film Producers Council was primarily between T Rajendar and Murali Ramasamy of Sri Thenandal Films, while PL Thenappan contested as an independent candidate. It is to be noted that a large number of producers in September separated to form the Tamil Film Active Producers’ Association (TFAPA) with director Bharathiraja chosen as its President. Actor Karunas after casting his vote in the TFPC elections expressed his dissatisfaction at director Bharathiraja’s decision to form the TFAPA. Later, Bharathiraja issued a clarification stating that the TFAPA was formed not with the purpose of splitting the existing TFPC, but had been set up with a view of protecting the interests of active producers who have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic. It is to be noted that a cash-for-votes scandal had broken out on election day, with allegations levelled against T Rajender’s camp.
In 2019, the Tamil Nadu government appointed a Special Officer to oversee the council's functioning and operations after conflicts within several members of the TFPC had surfaced to the forefront with the previous opposition staging protests, while locking the office premises and pushing their demands for the immediate resignation of the then President Vishal. Election Officer M Jayachandran was appointed by the Madras High Court to oversee the conduct of fair elections that came to an end at 4PM on November 22, 2020.

The sudden twist in Mersal controversy: ''What I said about Atlee was wrong''
By Galatta | 10:56 AM
A couple of years back, T Siva of Amma Creation had accused Atlee for high remuneration and also for wasting producer’s money. This was after the release of his blockbuster entertainer Mersal featuring Thalapathy Vijay in the lead role. However, his views on Atlee have changed now, he also regrets for blaming Atlee out of anger and haste. He opened up about this issue during a live interaction with Galatta’s VJ Mohan. This statement reads as follows:
“Sometimes, when we try to support a producer, we tend to go a little overboard. My focus at that point of time was only to save the producer who was struggling. But later, I got to know more about how Atlee went out of his way and helped the producer with compensation after the release of Mersal. I came to know some unknown facts and that’s when I realized, what I said about Atlee was wrong. But I wish to instate what I said back then, no matter how big the success of your film is, remember to keep a note of the profit that your producer gets out of your film. A big success, can double an actor’s salary but has your producer got at least half of your salary?”
SS Thamans mass update on his next film with the Mersal man!
By Galatta | 12:55 AM

Atlee during the audio launch of Bigil had stated that GK Vishnu will be part of his next film as well. But before working on Atlee’s next film, GK Vishnu will complete a Telugu film titled Krack starring Ravi Teja in the lead. Shruti Haasan and Varalakshmi Sarathkumar play the female leads while SS Thaman has been roped in to score the tunes.

Apparently, Krack is a cop story inspired by real-life incidents that took place in Andhra Pradesh. It looks like GK Vishnu will finish this project before moving to Atlee’s 5th film which is likely to be a Bollywood venture featuring Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role. SS Thaman took to his Twitter space to update about Krack film. Producer Murali Ramasamy clarifies that VIjay's Mersal was a hit film - one more Vijay film in plan!
By Arvind Sundaram | Galatta | 05:11 PM
Thalapathy Vijay’s Mersal, which released for the festive occasion of Diwali in 2017, was produced by the prestigious banner, Thenandal Studios Limited, founded by late veteran director Rama Narayanan. The acclaimed director’s son, Murali Ramasamy is currently managing the production company, along with his wife Hema Rukmani. Ever since the release of Mersal, there have been numerous speculations that the film was a big loss for the production house. People also cited that because of Mersal’s loss, Thenandal’s other films, like DD2 (Dhanush Directorial 2), Iravaakkaalam and Oxygen, didn’t see any progress.
Reacting to those comments, producer Murali clarified that Mersal was a clear hit film for them. In a recent interview with a popular media, he was quoted as saying, “I would like to make it very clear that Mersal wasn't a failure. I had some other issues that were no way related to Mersal. Me and Vijay are in constant touch and we in fact spoke, ten days back. He has assured me that he would do a film once again for me, probably after finishing his next with Sun Pictures (Thalapathy 65)”.
Well, this clarification about Mersal’s success and hint about the next project, has come as a great news for all the Vijay fans. Going by what Murali says, can we expect Thenandal Studios to produce Thalapathy 66? Let us keep our fingers crossed and wait for the right time!
