The rural drama Maamanithan which is written and directed by Seenu Ramasamy and produced by Yuvan Shankar Raja under his YSR Productions banner, was released on 24 June 2022. The long-delayed film which has been awaiting release for nearly 4 years now has finally hit the big screens. In addition to this, Yuvan also composed the soundtrack of this film along with his father, the maestro Ilaiyaraaja. The cinematography and editing were handled by M. Sukumar and A. Sreekar Prasad, respectively.

The film starring Vijay Sethupathi, Gayathrie, K. P. A. C. Lalitha, Guru Somasundaram, and Shaji Chen opened to mixed reviews from fans and critics alike. Maamanithan has also managed to grab the attention of many famous personalities. One of them is director Mysskin who has hailed Seenu Ramasamy for the idea of making a unique film amidst masala and commercial films and is succeeding with it. Mysskin was not the only one who was impressed by the film. Actor-director Bharathiraja and Superstar Rajinikanth also had high praise for the film and its director upon watching it. They too expressed their opinions on the film. Renowned filmmaker Shankar was also hugely impressed by the relationship drama. So much so that he too took to his Twitter handle to share the fact that Maamanithan gave him the satisfaction of having watched a good film. Stating that Seenu Ramasamy has delivered a "realistic classic", he was all praise for Vijay Sethupathi's performance in the film, expressing that the actor deserves a National Award for his brilliant performance. He also praised the music of the film, which is jointly composed by the father-son duo of Ilaiyaraaja and Yuvan Shankar Raja.

In this day and age that we live in, OTT platforms aim to acquire the digital rights of a film in order to stream it on their respective platform which in turn generates revenue for them. Well, this time it is the Arha Media & Broadcasting Private Limited owned aha Tamil that has managed to bag the right to this film. Enlightened by this, the over-the-top streaming service took to its Twitter handle and announced the news by saying "மாமனிதன் படக்குழுவினருக்கு ஆஹாவின் மனமார்ந்த வாழ்த்துக்கள்! ❤️ Happy to have bagged the digital rights for #Maamanithan". The Tamil part of that translates to, "Aha's heartfelt congratulations to the Maamanithan crew!"

The film which has finally been released today has been in development since 2016 right after the success of 2016's Dharma Durai. The film's shooting started on 15 December 2018 and was wrapped up on 12 February 2019. But the film's release was delayed due to financial issues. But with that out of the way now, Maamanithan looks like it will have a strong run at the box office.

Maamanithan narrates the story of an autorickshaw driver who wants his children to complete their education at a public school. Unfortunately, he gets caught in dire circumstances. The story of the movie progresses as the protagonist tries to overcome the adverse situations.

Leading Tamil actor 'Makkal Selvan' Vijay Sethupathi's Maamanithan is finally set to open in cinemas worldwide on June 24 and is the fourth time he is collaborating with the National Award-winning filmmaker Seenu Ramasamy after their Thenmerku Paruvakaatru (2010), Dharma Durai (2016), and the long-delayed Idam Porul Yaeval, which is yet to release. Produced under the YSR Films banner by Yuvan Shankar Raja, who has also composed the music for the film with his father 'Isaignani' Ilaiyaraaja, the upcoming film is getting a big release in Tamil Nadu and Kerala by RK Suresh's Studio 9. With promotions currently underway, the makers on Tuesday released the Maamanithan sneak peek video that shows an important sequence featuring Vijay Sethupathi and the film's heroine Gayathrie Shankar. 

In the Maamanithan sneak peek, we see Vijay Sethupathi playing the role of an auto driver and Gayathrie as his wife, who are parents to a boy and a girl. The promo teaser shows the parents getting their kids ready for school. As the scene progresses, Vijay Sethupathi notices new land plots being put up for sale where he resides, while dropping off his children at their school. It is there when a teacher informs him that Vijay Sethupathi can gain a commission by entering the plot for sale business and encourages him to pursue ahead. Although the scene progresses at a brisk pace, we get a hint at where the crux of the story of Maamanithan is headed and the subsequent consequences that were hinted at in the trailers released earlier. 

Maamanithan has witnessed several delays leading up to its release, with the biggest USP of the film being legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja and his son Yuvan Shankar Raja collaborating on the music for the first time. Apart from Vijay Sethupathi and Gayathrie, the film's star cast also includes the late K. P. A. C. Lalitha, Guru Somasundaram, Viswasam fame Anikha Surendran, Malayalam actor Shaji Chen among others in pivotal roles.

Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi's long-awaited film, Maamanithan is finally set for its showdown and the release update has set the fans in excitement. Maamanithan has been officially announced to release in theatres on June 23 and it will be released through RK Suresh's Studio 9 banner. Vijay Sethupathi made the official announcement on the film's release through a new poster which has grabbed the attention of the fans. Produced by Yuvan Shankar Raja under the banner of YSR Films, Maamanithan is helmed by ace filmmaker Seenu Ramasamy who is known for his intense and emotional dramas. He seems to have taken up an interesting premise with Maamanithan which holds a good pre release talk. 'Makkal Selvan' Vijay Sethupathi's much-awaited Maamanithan is gearing up for a huge theatrical release soon and marks the actor's reunion with National Award-winning filmmaker Seenu Ramasamy after they previously collaborated in films like Thenmerku Paruvakaatru (2010) and Dharma Durai (2016). The upcoming film produced by Yuvan Shankar Raja's YSR Films has been announced for a grand release in Tamil Nadu and Kerala by producer-actor RK Suresh's Studio 9 banner. Billed to be an intense family drama, promotions are already underway with the makers on Saturday releasing the new Maamanithan trailer, which gives us a glimpse at the spectacle fans can expect once the film arrives on the big screen. 

Vijay Sethupathi is seen playing the role of an auto driver, who is married to Gayathrie Shankar, with the couple leading a happy life with their two kids. The Maamanithan trailer starts off showing sincere and hard-working Vijay Sethupathi, who aims to bring up his kids in the best environment possible. However, things go awry when plans take a negative turn due to an unexpected incident leading to a number of obstacles, with Vijay Sethupathi eventually shown in the trailer ending up on the banks of Varanasi. Director R.Seenu Ramasamy took to his Twitter handle to announce that a trailer as well as a song from Maamanithan will release tomorrow on Saturday (April 16) at 6 pm. He shared a picture of the trailer's censor certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification along with a caption that read, "#MamanithanTrailer & song Release on Saturday Tomorrow 6 pm.", followed by a series of tags of all those involved in the movie.

Apart from this, Vijay Sethupathi is awaiting the release of Lokesh Kanagaraj's action drama, Vikram, headlined by Kamal Haasan with Fahadh Faasil in a crucial role.
