In what can termed as a completely surprising announcement, Lyca Productions shared the news of 'Thalapathy' Vijay's son Jason Sanjay making his directorial debut under their banner on Monday, August 28. The big news was revealed along with photos of Jason signing on to the project in the presence of producer Subaskaran Allirajah, the head of the blockbuster production-distribution banner GKM Tamil Kumaran among others. The project tentatively titled Jason Sanjay's Directorial Debut is officially a go now , with Lyca Productions expressing their joy at collaborating with Tamil superstar Vijay's son on their social media pages writing, "We are beyond excited 🤩 & proud 😌 to introduce #JasonSanjay in his Directorial Debut 🎬 We wish him a career filled with success & contentment 🤗 carrying forward the legacy! 🌟" (sic)

The announcement of Jason Sanjay's directorial debut has no doubt come as a massive surprise and wishes are already pouring in for the budding filmmaker, who has made a few short films during the course of his education abroad. It is to be noted that he directed a short titled Pull The Trigger earlier this year, which received quite a lot of buzz on social media. With Jason Sanjay's directorial debut now announced and Lyca Productions doing the honors for his grand start in Tamil cinema, there will be a lot of expectations surrounding the project and we can expect Vijay's fans to show him support in his new journey as a filmmaker on the global stage. 

Fans will know that Lyca Productions made a stellar debut in Tamil cinema by bankrolling 'Thalapathy' Vijay's Kaththi (2014) directed by AR Murugadoss, which went on to become one of the biggest box office blockbusters and put the hit production banner on the map. They will once again be looking to witness a similar outcome and this time with Vijay's son Jason Sanjay at the helm of the project, with the rest of the cast and crew announcements expected to be made known in the days ahead. 

Aishwarya Rajinikanth's next big directorial Lal Salaam has wrapped up filming, blockbuster production banner Lyca Productions made the announcement on Wednesday, August 9. Sharing photos of the wrap party, which saw the film's lead stars Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth, and the crew being joined by none other than 'Superstar' Rajinikanth, the prestigious production house also informed in their latest update that the post-production works are set to begin next. In the pictures shared by Lyca Productions, we see one of a cake that has the text of the Lal Salaam shooting being completed, while also extending a thank you to Rajinikanth for being a part of the film.

Lal Salaam is Aishwarya Rajinikanth's fourth directorial and sees her return to filmmaking after 3 (2012), Vai Raja Vai (2015), and the documentary Cinema Veeran (2017). The buzz for the film shot up tenfold after it was announced that Rajinikanth would be playing a cameo as a character named Moideen bhai, with his look in the shooting spot stills unveiled so far taking social media by storm. Billed to be a sports drama, Lal Salaam has Rajinikanth appearing in crucial scenes alongside the film's lead stars Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth, who will be seen playing the role of aspiring cricketers. It is to be noted that India's 1983 World Cup-winning captain and legendary Indian cricketer Kapil Dev too will be seen making an appearance in the film in scenes with Rajinikanth. 

Aishwarya Rajinikanth's Lal Salaam will subsequently include songs and a background score composed by Academy Award-winning music director A. R. Rahman, and there is considerable excitement as to what big treats he's going to deliver next. The film also marks the third time 'Superstar' Rajinikanth is appearing in a Lyca Productions venture after 2.0 (2018) and Darbar (2020). It is to be noted that the iconic actor and the hit production house will once again be collaborating on the upcoming Thalaivar 170 to be directed by T. J. Gnanavel of Jai Bhim fame.

Ajith Kumar is one of the leading actors in the Tamil film industry with a massive and loyal fan base. The actor has starred in over 60 films and his latest was the blockbuster hit Thunivu, was produced by Boney Kapoor and directed by H. Vinoth. The heist thriller film also has Manju Warrier, Samuthirakani, John Kokken, Mahanadhi Shankar, Prem Kumar,  Bagavathi Perumal, Pavani Reddy, Cibi, and Dharshan in important roles. It was released in January and saw a good run in theatres. Ajith Kumar lost his father recently on 24th March and celebrities, politicians and fans sent their condolence on the tragic loss. As the next project of the actor is yet to be announced, there were many speculation around the project.

The next project of Ajith Kumar is tentatively titled AK62. Lyca productions, a leading production house, released a statement that it will be directed by Vignesh Shivan, last year. The post created a huge anticipation. Later, there were speculations that Vignesh Shivan will no longer be a part of the project. Reports then stated that talented filmmaker Magizh Thirumeni will helm the next project of Ajith Kumar. Now the makers have announced that an official update about AK62 will be released soon. 

G.K.M. Tamil Kumaran is the CEO of Lyca Productions, which is headed by A. Subaskaran. As the CEO of Lyca and Magizh Thirumeni visites Ajith Kumar's father to express condolences as his father passed away recently, the reporters asked if they can confirm that Magizh Thirumeni will direct AK62. The producer said “let's talk about this afterwards." As the reporters asked if we can expect an update. He replied ”sure there will be good news, that will come next month". The video implied that fans can expect an official update about AK62 in April.

Lyca Productions has grown to be a leading production house in the Tamil film industry. From their first project Kathi with 'Thalapathy' Vijay in the lead role the production house had grown and produced multiple projects including Yaman, Kolamavu Kokila, Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, Vada Chennai, 2.0, Kaappaan, Darbar, Mafia: Chapter 1, Don, Ponniyin Selvan: I. The production house also has many upcoming projects including Lal Salaam, Ponniyin Selvan: II set to be released in theatres next month. The film has created massive anticipation as the first part was a blockbuster hit that drove people to cinema halls. Indian 2 is another exciting project of the production house with Kamal Haasan as lead directed by S. Shankar.

Lyca Productions has also distributed many big blockbuster projects in other languages projects in Tamil Nadu. They released Pushpa: The Rise starring Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna, the global sensation RRR starring NTR and Ram Charan in lead roles and Sita Ramam which became a surprise hit film and was welcomed by audiences across the nation. Now, the company has announced that it will distribute Kabzaa in the state.

The highly anticipated Kannada language Pan-Indian film Kabzaa is directed by R Chandru. The film has ‘Indian Real Star’ Upendra, ‘Baadshah’ Kichcha Sudeep, known for playing the antagonist role in Naan Ee, and 'Karunada Chakravarthy' Dr, Shivrajkumar in lead roles. The anticipated film is mounted on a massive budget and is set to be an action flick that happens during Indian independence and right after independence. The film also features Shriya Saran as the female lead, with Murali Sharma, Posani Krishna Murali, Sudha, Anoop Ravanna, and John Kokken in supporting roles. It has music composed by KGF fame Ravi Basrur and it's the next big thing from the Kannada film industry after KGF and Kantara.

Leading film production banner Lyca Productions is currently developing several ventures, which are in various stages of development starting with ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam's epic historical fiction film, Ponniyin Selvan. Apart from Ponniyin Selvan, the blockbuster production house is also bankrolling Tami biggies like Kamal Haasan's Indian 2, Sivakarthikeyan's Don, Trisha's Raangi, including the highly-anticipated Akshay Kumar-starrer Ram Setu and Good Luck Jerry with Jahnvi Kapoor under Aanand L. Rai's direction in Hindi. In that light, Lyca Productions dropped a massive announcement on Saturday informing fans that their next film will be in Telugu, with Tamil filmmaker Aishwarya R. Dhanush directing the venture. 

'Superstar Rajinikanth’s eldest daughter and the wife of two-time National Award-winning actor Dhanush, Aishwarya, who debuted in direction with 3 (2012) and subsequently made the heist black comedy Vai Raja Vai (2015), is now set for a grand a comeback to mainstream cinema after a six-year hiatus. Aishwarya, who also made a documentary titled Cinema Veeran in the interim, spoke about her upcoming film with Lyca Productions and said, "I am so excited to direct this film and with Lyca backing this project, our collective endeavour will be to bring a much-needed, family entertainer for our pan-India audiences." Likewise, Aashish Singh, CEO Lyca Productions, in an official press release said, "We are thrilled to have Aishwaryaa on board to direct our first Telugu production. We are confident that this film will captivate and entertain audiences across the country." Details on the cast and crew of Aishwarya Dhanush's Telugu directorial debut are awaited and can be expected to be announced soon.

Ace director SS Rajamouli's next film, RRR is scheduled to release in theatres on October 13 and it is expected to have a mega grand release. The film features Jr NTR and Ram Charan in the lead roles and this film marks their first outing together. The fans are super excitedly waiting to see the epic film on the big screens and when a blockbuster director like Rajamouli is at the helm, the expectations are huge. RRR deals with the story of Indian freedom fighters, Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem who fought against the British and Nizam of Hyderabad respectively. This period film is produced by DVV Danayya under the banner of DVV Entertainments and the film has been made on a budget of over 400 crores.

With music by MM Keeravani, the film has cinematography by KK Senthil Kumar and editing by Sreekar Prasad. Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt plays the female lead, while the star cast also includes the likes of Ajay Devgn, Olivia Morris, Samuthirakani, Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody, Chatrapathi Sekhar, and others. The shooting of the film was recently wrapped up and the makers are currently busy with the post production works which are happening in full swing. Director Rajamouli is said to have upped the game with RRR and everyone is eagerly looking forward to seeing the maverick filmmaker's work.

While the film is originally shot in Telugu, it will have a dubbed release in Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, and Kannada. The makers of RRR have now made a big breaking announcement about the release of the film's Tamil version. Leading production house, Lyca Productions has acquired the Tamil Nadu theatrical rights of RRR for a record price. The film will have a massive release in theatres across Tamil Nadu through the banner of Lyca Productions. Rajamouli has also got a solid fan base in Tamil Nadu, thanks to the blockbuster success of Naan Ee and Baahubali series, and now, with Lyca's addition, the film is sure to have a mega opening.

Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan is currently working on the most anticipated Indian 2, which is being directed by Shankar and bankrolled by Lyca Productions. Howeve, the project has been facing one obstacle after the other with there being a number of stoppages in shoot! This movie's shoot went underway in January 2019, for Pongal. However, after a brief schedule, the movie was put on hold to accomodate Kamal Haasan's political work. Then, shoot resumed in August but Kamal Haasan had to undergo surgery and this caused yet another delay. Later, the shoot resumed and was progressing rapidly, when tragedy struck again!

A heavy crane fell down at the Indian 2 shooting spot and three people lost their lives in this accident. This lead to stoppage in shoot and the unit has been mired in legal troubles! With all this happening, there have been rumours that Kamal Haasan and Lyca Productions have fallen out. Earlier, it had been officially announced that Kamal Haasan's next project, following Indian 2, would be Thalaivan Irukkindran and that this project would also be produced by Lyca Productions. Now, rumours have been circulating that after the Indian 2 incident, the Lyca banner had opted out of this project.

However, a source close to Lyca Productions reveals that there are no issues between the banner and Kamal Haasan. We also hear that Thalaivan Irukkindran has not been shelved and is very much on. It was also announced that Vadivelu had been roped in for the movie and maestro AR Rahman had been announced as the composer for this movie! Once the legal issues are sorted out for the shooting spot accident, the team is planning to resume shoot. We had recently revealed that a skeletal crew had even recently shot for a portion of a song, in Bolivia. However, with the ongoing Corona Virus pandemic, it is unsure as to when the shooting might resume! Shooting for almost all movies and serials have now ground to a halt. Stay tuned for updates...

Lyca Productions is gearing up for the release of their next film, Mafia, which is scheduled to hit the screens this Friday, on February 21. This stylish action thriller features Arun Vijay, Prasanna, and Priya Bhavanishankar in the lead roles. Apart from Mafia, Lyca is also bankrolling quite a few other interesting projects including Shankar’s Indian 2 and Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan. Meanwhile, we have got an exclusive update on their new film and it looks like an interesting project is on cards.

This new film will star Sasikumar in the lead role and will be directed by Anis of Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah fame. It is said that director Anis and the production house is finalizing the rest of the cast and crew and an official announcement on the project can be expected very soon. More details about this project are awaited.

Sasikumar is right now busy shooting for his untitled next with Jyotika under the direction of Era Saravanan of Kathukutty fame. He is also awaiting the release of his other projects like M.G.R.Magan, Raja Vamsam, and Kombu Vacha Singamda. Looks like Sasikumar is going to be a busy man indeed!

Kollywood is probably the only industry which still has the practice of allotting exclusive scenes to comedians rather than only bringing in comedy as the part of the story. Comedians are stars in their own right; Santhanam had a period when all movies, by default, had a role for him. After Kolamavu Kokila, Yogi Babu has been having a windfall – almost all movies that are announced inevitably have a role for him. An actor’s professional sincerity also plays a role in staying on such a wave of popularity. Yogi Babu, who is currently involved with two movies that are being produced by the Lyca Prodcutions, has reportedly signed a two-film deal with the production house.

Lyca Productions had earlier signed Yogi Babu for their comedy film Pannikutty. Director Anu Charan, of Kirumi fame is at the helm of this movie which also had comedian Karunakaran (our own Arumai Pragasam from Soothu Kavvum) and Dindugal I. Leoni in significant parts. Following this, he was roped in for a role in Rajinikanth’s much-awaited Darbar. Yogi Babu has already finished his scenes for Darbar and will have to return only for the final touches. Reportedly, Lyca Productions found the association with Yogi Babu hassle-free and has signed a two-film deal with the actor.

Some of Yogi Babu’s upcoming projects are Jaikkira Kudhiri directed by Sakthi Chidambaram, 100% Kaadhal with GV Prakash, Karthik Girish’s Shaithan Ka Bachcha, Sadhuranga Vettai 2 with Nirmal Kumar, Sam Anton’s Gurkha, Jayam Ravi’s Comali and Dhanush-Vetri Maaran’s Asuran. Dharmaprabhu, which has Yogi Babu in the lead role, has been having a successful run at the theatres since its release on June 28.

With the 2.0 trailer launched amidst a huge fanfare, fans are now pumped to witness director Shankar’s complete vision unfold when the Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson starrer arrives on screens on November 29.

Meanwhile, the 2.0 trailer released on the Lyca Productions YouTube channel has now led to the reputed production house making a big achievement in the form of crossing 1 million subscribers.

Fans of both ‘Superstar’ Rajinikanth and Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar are wholly satisfied with director Shankar’s efforts to make 2.0 a film class apart and on the lines of a Hollywood flick. With the film set to be dealing with scientific themes, this sequel to the 2010 blockbuster, Enthiran, is among the costliest films to be made in Asia till date.

Although intially planned for a Diwali release last year and subsequently getting postponed to January this year, all uncertainities surrounding 2.0 have now been dispelled post the release of the trailer, which is a visual feast to put it short.
