After Ponniyin Selvan, Karthi to team up with Komban Muthaiah again for 2D Entertainment
By Avinash Pandian | Galatta | 11:12 AM
Karthi has had a pretty decent 2019 with three releases in the form of Dev, Kaithi and Thambi. So, it’s been a mixed bag for the actor with one success, one failure and one average hit film this year. His line up looks exciting too, he has completed shooting for Sultan which will hit the screens early 2020 and he has recently started working on Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus historical fiction film Ponniyin Selvan.
Karthi is generally very choosy when it comes to directors, he has never worked with one director twice in his 12 year-long career. Quite a fascinating fact is it not? When other heroes prefer to repeat directors who are most comfortable to them, here is a guy who have never done that in the past. However, things have changed now, he is working again with Mani Ratnam for the second time after Kaatru Veliyidai, that makes Mani Ratnam the first director to work with Karthi twice. Do you know who is the second? It is most likely to be director Muthaiah with whom he did Komban.
There are speculations doing rounds that Muthaiah will be directing the controversial story Kutra Parambarai as a web series. When we checked with our sources, they said that the web series is still in the initial stages of discussion. He is likely to direct Karthi next for a film produced by 2D Entertainment. This project will kick-start once Karthi finishes off his commitments for Sulthan and Ponniyin Selvan.

Kaithi 'Jumbalakka' police station full scene | Karthi | Lokesh Kanagaraj
By Vivek Raj | Galatta | 05:32 PM
The action thriller, Kaithi, released this Diwali, has turned out to become the biggest box office success for actor Karthi. The second directorial of Lokesh Kanagaraj had gone on to receive a stunning response from fans and critics alike while production banners Dream Warrior Pictures and Vivekananda Pictures have come out on top with huge collections. Although the film did not include any songs, composer Sam C. S. left everyone mighty impressed with his thunderous soundtrack, which as well was released officially a few days back due to popular demand from fans.
With Kaithi out on the over-the-top (OTT) media service channel, Hotstar, AP International has now released the scene where the college students blast the popular ‘Jumbalakka’ song from Arvind Swamy’s En Swaasa Kaatre on the stereo in order to not let the inmates led by Harish Uthaman in the police station send their message to the group of smugglers outside headed by the film's lead antagonist, Arjun Das. The scene was met with a tremendous response in theatres with many giving a huge applause as the song came at a point when the plot was already too intense.
Karthi has played the role of a convict named Dilli in Kaithi, which also went on to become quite successful in Telugu under the title, Khaidi. Naren, Vijay TV Dheena, Ramana, Hareesh Peradi, Malavika Avinash, Chetan appear in supporting roles while Sathya N Sooryan has done the cinematography and Philomin Raj is the editor.

Popular director of Vishal and Karthi films decides to quit - here's the reason!
By Vivek Raj | Galatta | 05:15 PM
Director Suseenthiran has made a name for himself in Tamil cinema over the years for making films in quick intervals and has teamed up with several popular stars. He started off his filmmaking career on a bang in 2009 with the rural sports drama, Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu, and followed it up with the action thriller blockbuster, Naan Mahaan Alla, in 2010, which had Karthi and Kajal Aggarwal in the lead roles. Suseenthiran has also teamed up twice with Vishal for Pandiya Naadu in 2013 and Paayum Puli in 2015 with both ventures going to gain a following since their release.
In a career spanning well over a decade, Suseenthiran has gone on to make 12 films till date including the sports drama, Kennedy Club, starring Sasikumar and director Bharathiraja, earlier this year. That said, Suseenthiran has made a sudden decision to quit having a presence on social networking forums (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) owing to his upcoming work commitments in cinema. The hit director took to his Twitter page to inform followers of this decision in a hand-written note and can be seen below:
As for his upcoming projects, Suseenthiran’s Champion starring Vishwa and Mirnalini Ravi in the lead roles with Narain Kumar, Manoj K Bharathi, V Jayaprakash in supporting roles has been announced for a December 13 release and has created quite a lot of buzz post the release of the film’s intense and action-packed trailer released a few days back. Suseenthiran’s romantic drama film, Angelina, with newcomers is also under development in its post-production stages and we can expect it to come out in early 2020.
"Jyothika anni and I don't get along": Karthi at Thambi audio launch
By Vivek Raj | Galatta | 03:54 PM
Actor Karthi’s third and final release of the year after Dev and Kaithi will be the upcoming action thriller, Thambi, announced for a worldwide December 20 release. The film is special for fans everywhere as it sees Karthi’s sister-in-law, Jyothika, sharing the screen space alongside the Kaithi star for the first time ever. Directed by Papanasam fame Jeethu Joseph, the film is a joint collaboration of Parallel Minds and Viacom18 Studios banners and features music by Govind Vasantha. With the film all set for its theatrical release next month, Karthi has spoken in detail about how Thambi was conceived as a film two years back to getting veteran actor Sathyaraj on board while also shedding light on bringing Jyothika on board the project.
Karthi stated, “I never ever expected I would be working with Jyothika anni. The sincerity you see in her is unlike anything I’ve noticed. If it is a character where you're required to learn the art of Silambam, you will see her train for the part for a period of six months. Likewise, she was clear about the preparation for her role in Thambi and told that she wanted the dialogues a month earlier to learn and train. She doesn’t want to go to the spot and prepare while shooting and wants to make the best of her efforts. I believe I’m a part of the next generation after her and from where I’m standing, I’m astounded to witness such dedication and sincerity and, I have so much to learn from her - be it punctuality or the preparation that one has to undergo for a scene. I remember how she used to ask if we could prepare before the monitor. Now, I know that usually we get the job done without even going before the monitor. But still, we used to go before the monitor three or four times and the emotions she expresses in each of those outtakes is one step better and that is how she brought out the best in me in each scene. It is true that we are as good as our co-actor. So, when she scores so much in terms of performance, all I had to do was match half of the intensity in comparison to what she was doing and that would elevate my act as well,".
He further added saying, "I believe that us both acting together in this film is nothing else than a blessing and the scenes we are in together are going to be interesting. I can relate to what 'Super Deluxe' Ashwanth meant when he said we both never got along during the shoot (jokingly). I can say the same about Jyothika anni and me as well - we both don’t get along with each other until the climax in the film. We only unite only in the end. Music directors, cinematographers and editors will find pleasure in doing thrillers. But, for an actor it is always a pleasure to do a relationship film. Only when it is a relationship film, an actor can experience those emotions as a member of a family. I still remember that my brother (Suriya) used to torture me when we were kids and I always wanted an elder sister. I enjoyed Kadaikutty Singam as I had 5 sisters in the film. In Thambi, Jyothika anni was there and the relationship between us is special. There’s also a dialogue in the film which goes like, ‘If there is an elder sister in a house, that’s equivalent to having two mothers'. I saw that as a meaningful dialogue,”.

Kaithi highlight scene | Karthi | Narain | Lokesh Kanagaraj
By Vivek Raj | Galatta | 12:13 PM
Actor Karthi’s latest film, Kaithi, released as a Diwali treat is getting a double thumbs up from both fans and critics alike and is en route to becoming a massive commercial success as well. Directed by Maanagaram fame Lokesh Kanagaraj, the action thriller has been released simultaneously in Telugu as well under the title, Khaidi, since Karthi enjoys a huge fan following in the Telugu-speaking states. Karthi plays a convict named Dilli with the plot revolving around him seated right in between a war between the police and underworld gangsters. With both versions of the film now out in theatres, reputed Telugu film distribution house, Sri Sathya Sai Arts, have now released an important scene from Khaidi, which is primarily featured on Karthi, Narain and Dheena planning an escape route through the jungles.
Both Kaithi and Khaidi have been performing exceptionally well ever since its release and has taken many by surprise, especially considering the film had come out alongside ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay’s Bigil. This was most notable earlier this week when Kaithi went on to collect in the USA on the fifth day of its release an estimated $23059 from 51 screens in comparison to Bigil, which made $22350 from 103 screens. A joint venture of Dream Warrior Pictures and Vivekananda Pictures, Kaithi also includes Anjathe fame Naren, Vijay TV Dheena, Mariam George among others in crucial others along with composer Sam C. S. for the music, cinematographer Sathya N Sooryan and editor Philomin Raj.
