'Thalapathy' Vijay's Leo is scheduled to open in cinemas worldwide on October 19 and promotions have already begun for the highly-anticipated action film directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The blockbuster filmmaker sat down with National Award-winning film critic Baradwaj Rangan, the Editor-in-Chief of Galatta Plus, to talk about whether Leo finds a place in the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), while also opening up on his plans for the franchise's future. Addressing the query about how there are several filmmakers in Hindi cinema working together on similar film franchises and whether he'd be open to collaborating with other Tamil directors to be a part of the LCU, Lokesh Kanagaraj said, "I don't want it to loosen up since it's just been formed. For example, if 5-6 films are made in this universe, then, I would like to collaborate with someone else. As of now, I just need to build it very strong. It's in the basement level now and I don't want multiple people to touch it."

Speaking about the LCU and its various properties, including his plans for building it up ahead, Lokesh Kanagaraj states, "I have ideas to write a spinoff kind-of a web series for characters like Agent Tina from Vikram and Napoleon in Kaithi. That will again contribute to the film. And, there's no need for me to direct them since others can also oversee the work. But, it all comes down to the timing and I have to sit down and write first." Opening up on how he wants to be the single person handling the LCU until it becomes strong, the trendsetting filmmaker said, "I would say that I've written something and I'll ask another director if this story can be made into a film and then ask that person to come into my universe and direct it for me. That's how I want it to be done. But before that, the universe needs to be built by those 5-6 films." Upon being asked whether Vijay's Leo is a part of the LCU, Lokesh Kanagaraj said, "I can't say it yet just because I don't want to break this."

Expectations are huge for Leo and the buzz around whether it is connected to the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) is huge, especially after the events in Kamal Haasan's Vikram (2022) also starring Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Faasil, and Suriya in a powerful cameo as Rolex and Karthi's Kaithi (2019) were established to have occurred during the same timeframe. Fans will have to wait till October 19 to find out the big answer whether Vijay's Leo is also going to be a part of the LCU. 'Thalapathy' Vijay's Leo is progressing at a steady pace in Chennai and all sights are now set on new treats and updates from the film on the superstar's birthday on June 22. Being directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, there has been considerable debate as to whether the upcoming biggie will be set in the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), which was first established in the 2022 blockbuster, Vikram, starring 'Ulaganayagan' Kamal Haasan, 'Makkal Selvan' Vijay Sethupathi, and Fahadh Faasil, with Suriya also appearing in a powerful cameo. Towards the end of Vikram, Tamil cinema fans were in for a massive surprise showing the events of the film being linked with Lokesh Kanagaraj's second directorial, the smash hit 2019 film, Kaithi, which saw Karthi deliver a thumping performance.

As there is already a lot of chatter on social media about whether Vijay's Leo is a part of the LCU or not, actor Harish Uthaman, who played one of the antagonists in Kaithi, took to his Instagram Story on Wednesday and shared a fan-made picture that is creating a lot of buzz. Harish has posted a fan-made collage that shows his character in conversation over the phone from the Vikram climax, with Vijay from Beast instead being featured on the other end. Sharing the picture, Harish wrote, "Wouldn't it be nice", while adding a grinning face and smiling face with heart-eyes emojis, with their fan-fiction conversation leaving fans thrilled. In the picture, we see Harish Uthaman's character telling Vijay that he is in danger, who then as Leo responds stating that he is the danger along the lines of Walter White aka. Heisenberg in Breaking Bad

With the wait still on to know whether Leo is also a part of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe, fans on social media are hoping that doubt will be cleared on 'Thalapathy' Vijay's birthday. Harish Uthaman, who was established as the mastermind behind the events in Kaithi, is expected to return to the role once again in Kaithi 2, and it now remains to be seen whether he too will be featuring in Leo if the Vijay-starrer is set in the LCU. Lokesh Kanagaraj's Leo will see Vijay sharing screen space with an ensemble cast starting with Trisha, who is playing the female lead, followed by Sanjay Dutt, Mysskin, Gautham Menon, Arjun, Priya Anand, Mathew Thomas, dance master Sandy among others appearing in key roles, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander.

Leading Tamil actor Karthi will be celebrating his 16th year in Tamil cinema on Thursday, February 23, after he made his acting debut in the film industry in 2007 in director Ameer's Paruthiveeran, which went on to become a massive blockbuster, while also garnering massive critical acclaim. With Paruthiveeran re-releasing in a popular theatre in Chennai over the past weekend, hit Tamil filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj has now unveiled the common DP of '16 years of Karthiism' on Twitter as a special treat for Karthi's fans, while also extending his wishes to the actor for being a part of several memorable and entertaining films.

Lokesh Kanagaraj, who is currently busy filming his upcoming film, LEO, with 'Thalapathy' Vijay in the lead role, congratulated Karthi and tweeted, "Glad to unveil the common DP of #16YearsofKarthiism and wishing  @Karthi_Offl  sir on successfully completing 16 years in the industry by delivering quality entertainers and hard-hitting films! Keep inspiring us sir🔥". Both Karthi and Lokesh Kanagaraj had worked previously worked in the smash hit 2019 action thriller, Kaithi, which was confirmed to be a part of the 'Lokesh Cinematic Universe' (LCU), after a reference to his character Dilli was made in 'Ulaganayagan' Kamal Haasan's Vikram released last year. Check out the '16 years of Karthiism' poster below:

Having delivered three back-to-back box office successes last year (Viruman, Ponniyin Selvan: 1, and Sardar), Karthi's first big release of 2023 is Ponniyin Selvan: 2 scheduled to open in theatres worldwide on April 28. He is at present shooting his landmark 25th film, Japan, under Raju Murugan's direction, which is expected to come out in the months ahead. There is tremendous buzz for Kaithi 2 as expectations are high to witness Karthi in a big-screen face-off with his his brother Suriya, who appeared in an electrifying cameo as Rolex in Vikram, with fans also hoping to see Kamal Haasan and Fahadh Faasil, including Vijay if LEO ends up being a part of the LCU.

Thalapathy 67 poojai ceremony video: The Kaithi connect - yet another big LCU hint! Don't miss it!

The one film that is the talk of the town now is the upcoming Thalapathy 67, which sees Vijay and Lokesh Kanagaraj teaming up once again after their blockbuster, Master, released in 2021. The highly-anticipated film being produced by S S Lalit Kumar's 7 Screen Studio banner is billed to be a gangster venture that sees the Tamil superstar reuniting with Trisha Krishnan after a gap of 14 years, and has music by Anirudh Ravichander. With production currently underway, the makers on Wednesday, February 1, released the much-awaited Thalapathy 67 poojai video, which gives us a glimpse at some of the other cast members at the ceremony among whom were 'Action King' Arjun, veteran actor Mansoor Ali Khan, actress Priya Anand, Sandy master, George Maryan, to name a notable few.

One striking aspect of the Thalapathy 67 poojai is the appearance of actor George Maryan, who was earlier seen in Lokesh Kanagaraj's Kaithi (2019) as the police constable Napoleon. The veteran actor participating in the ceremony has once again sparked rumors about the Vijay-starrer being set in the widely-debated 'Lokesh Cinematic Universe' (LCU), which was first established in the 2022 box office blockbuster, Vikram, and saw 'Ulaganayagan' Kamal Haasan alongside 'Makkal Selvan' Vijay Sethupathi as Sandhanam, Fahadh Faasil as Agent Amar, and Suriya as well making a cameo appearance as a drug kingpin named Rolex, while also teasing audiences the presence of Karthi as Dilli from Kaithi

George Maryan played Napoleon in Kaithi, which was a breakout role for the veteran actor and he was almost set to reprise his character once again in Vikram as well, which Lokesh Kanagaraj had revealed during a discussion with National Award-winning film critic Baradwaj Rangan, the Editor-in-Chief of Galatta Plus, after the release of Vikram last year. During the Vikram story breakdown, Lokesh Kanagaraj mentions how he had initially planned to include George Maryan in the Kamal Haasan-starrer, but eventually had to chop it off from the story due to duration issues, while hinting about including it at a later point.

This latest appearance at the Thalapathy 67 poojai ceremony has created a massive curiosity among fans that there might be a possibility George Maryan might once again reprise his role as constable Napoleon from Kaithi. There is also a likelihood that the Vijay and Lokesh Kanagaraj venture might turn out to be a standalone film and George Maryan could be playing a completely new character. To watch Lokesh Kanagaraj speak about his plans to initially include George Maryan in Vikram, head over to his interview with Baradwaj Rangan in the video below and take a look at the filmmaker talk between 1:10:57 - 1:12:08:
