Actor-politician Sarathkumar's Irai is his Tamil web series debut and will be premiering on the aha Tamil OTT streaming platform on February 18. An intriguing and action-packed teaser has now been released giving us our first glimpse at what fans can expect from the investigative thriller series made by Rajesh M Selva, who previously directed the 'Ulaganayagan' Kamal Haasan-starrer Thoongavanam and Kadaram Kondan with 'Chiyaan' Vikram. The Irai teaser starts off introducing Sarathkumar investigating a series of killings in a hill station backdrop and it is yet to be seen whether he's indeed playing the role of a police officer. 

An adaptation of writer Archana Sarat's Birds of Prey novel, Irai includes an ensemble cast featuring names like veteran actor 'Nizhalgal' Ravi, Abishek Shankar, Sri Krishna Dayal, Gouri Nair, Shrisha, Sriranjani Prabhu, Rethika Srinivasan, Vaanmadhi, Karuppu Nambiar, Ravindra Vijay, and Gokul Anand. The book has been adapted for the screen by Manoj Kumar Kalaivanan, who has also written the additional story. Director Rajesh M Selva has penned the screenplay and dialogues along with Manoj Kumar Kalaivanan and Rajesh Manjunath. Produced by Radikaa Sarathkumar's Radaan Mediaworks banner, Irai has a talented technical team onboard featuring names like composer Ghibran, while cinematography and editing are by S Yuva and San Lokesh, respectively. 

Irai marks Sarathkumar's second time venturing into the digital space after he made his debut in the Telugu web series Parampara, which is currently streaming on the Disney+ Hotstar OTT platform. The actor will be looking to hit the bullseye with the crime thriller series ahead of his upcoming film releases like ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam's ambitious epic historical fiction venture, Ponniyin Selvan: I, in which he is strongly speculated to be portraying the character Periya Pazhuvettarayar. He is also working on a film titled Pirandhal Parasakthi in which he will be seen sharing screen space alongside Radikaa and Varalaxmi.

Chiyaan Vikram rocked the screens with his mass look once again in his recent release Kadaram Kondan. The action thriller hit the screens a few days back and is having a successful run after receiving positive reviews from both audience and critics as well. Kadaram Kondan was widely appreciated for the making and the stunts performed by Chiyaan Vikram proved to be a big positive for the film. Kadaram Kondan is made under the direction of Rajesh M Selva and the movie is produced by Kamal Haasan under his production firm Raaj Kamal Films International. The film also Akshara Haasan and Abi Haasan in an important role.

The latest video song from the film to come out is the track titled Kadaram Kondan which is sung by the multi-talented Shruti Haasan and Shabir. The lyrics for the song is written by Priyan. The Gibran musical was an instant hit when it came out a month back and now fans can enjoy the full video on YouTube. Chiyaan Vikram's panache isn't put to full use in this action film!

Kadaram Kondan was a film that made the noise right from its very first announcement because of the names involved in the project. With Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan deciding to collaborate with ace actor Vikram for a film, Kadaram Kondan started off on the right note. Bankrolled by Raajkamal Films International, Kadaram Kondan is Chiyaan's next release in K-town after Saamy 2. This film is directed by Kamal's former associate, Rajesh M Selva of Thoongavanam fame and features Akshara Haasan, Abi Hassan, in pivotal roles.

KK (Chiyaan Vikram) has a hidden identity and he sets out on a mission assigned to him. What was the mission and how does it affect the lives of a young couple, Vasu (Abi Hassan) and his pregnant wife, Aathirah (Akshara Haasan)? Get to watch the film to know the answer to this.

Vikram is a proven actor and he aces the role of KK with perfection. The style and charisma that he exhibits is very impressive and he is a delight to watch. He owns the screen with his presence. The suave actor also scores a century with his action moves. Not to forget the fitness goals set by him! However, we cannot skip this review without worrying about the less screentime of Vikram. Being the protagonist, you'd want him to take the driver's seat, but that doesn't happen. Having said that, his fans might be disappointed. 

Akshara Haasan delivers a neat performance and her innocence brings life to the character. Abi Hassan has got a good start and he looks to be an actor with great potential. Kadaram Kondan is a good launch for the young talent and we hope to see more of him. The chemistry between the duo works and their emotions looked heartwarming.

The first half keeps you completely engaged and the moments are tightly packed. However, you don't see much of Vikram in this half. He is put to rest for the major part. The latter half of the film, where the makers set into the core plot, is a bit hurried and confused. The core premise and the conflict will look unclear for a set of audience. With the entire film taking place in Malaysia and the actors having only action for most part, the chances of understanding the story is lesser.

There is too much of action and complex sequence of scenes which might alienate the audience from the characters. The logic definitely takes a back seat and there are a lot of scenes which support your feeling. Vasu gets severely injured on his head in a gunshot sequence, but you don't see any traces of that injury in the very next scene. He is totally normal?! Also, at times, one would feel if you're watching a GTA (Grand Theft Auto) game as you see, both KK and Vasu randomly take the cars and bikes, throwing out the actual owners.

KK and Vasu's faces are constantly on the news channels, and both of them are inside the police station, but no cop identifies them? Also, there is not much impact after you come out of the theatre. The brutal violence against a pregnant woman is disturbing to watch and the intensity of that could have been reduced. The film's runtime is a huge plus and the proceedings are put together in an engaging fashion.

Director Rajesh M Selva deserves applause for executing this film set in abroad. The scenes are well-executed and the shots don't look clumsy as such. However, the right packaging and an even more stronger writing was needed to give the completeness. Ghibran's music uplifts the overall mood of the film and he has a sizable share in keeping the film intact. He fires in a totally different league and his score is truly international. Srinivas Gutha's visuals are rich and classy and he maintains the correct balance through his work. Special credits to the stunt department who has done an appreciable job.

A film long awaited by ‘Chiyaan’ Vikram fans, Kadaram Kondan, under Rajesh M. Selva’s direction is all set to finally hit screens later this week on July 19. With promotions for the film being carried out extensively by the team ahead of its theatrical release, director Rajesh M. Selva during an exclusive interview with Galatta went on to reveal his future plans. He stated, "I recently finished writing a dark comedy script, which is quite hilarious. I’m also working on a comedy thriller, which I’m holding discussions for it to be made in Hindi. Then, there’s a script written by a friend for which I have contributed on the screenplay front and, a commercial script, which is tailor-made for Ajith and Vijay,". The filmmaker is hoping to hit the jackpot this time after making his directorial debut in 2015 with Thoongavanam, which had Kamal Haasan and Trisha in the lead roles.

Actor Vikram’s upcoming film, Kadaram Kondan, has been announced to hit screens on July 19. Directed by Rajesh M. Selva and produced by jointly by Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International and R. Ravindran’s Trident Arts banners with music by Ghibran, the action thriller also starring Akshara Haasan and Abi Hassan had its trailer launched yesterday. Vikram had spoken in detail about Kamal Haasan as an influence as well as his reason for working in Kadaram Kondan.

Speaking about Kamal Haasan, Vikram stated, “When I was studying in Yercaud, they would show a lot of English movies and only on a few occasions Hindi and Tamil films. Each House in our school would have a Captain, who would go to Salem and get films to watch. When I was the Captain of my House at Montford School, I bought Vazhvey Maayam, while the other two House Captains bought Tik Tik Tik and Varumaiyin Niram Sivappu. The interesting thing about this incident back then was none of us had discussed with each other about what films we were going to buy. And, there was such competition among us as to which film was better and that was the kind of impact Kamal sir had on all of us growing up.”

Vikram further added, “I became an actor because of Sivaji Ganesan sir and Kamal Haasan sir, and that was the reason for the fire in me to go forward. The one Kamal sir film I would want to remake and consider my most favorite is 16 Vayadhinile because his rendition of the Chappani character remains an iconic one and nobody other than him can perform it with such maturity.”

Speaking about Kadaram Kondan, Vikram said, “The only reason I agreed to do KK was because of Kamal Haasan and I was surprised hearing the script because it is a stylish and slick film made on an international level without missing anything about our culture and our nativity. I have done a lot of interesting roles, but I was drawn to this character and I wanted to make him look different. Everyone knows Dhruva Natchathiram is stylish, but Kadaram Kondan is also a stylish character and it will be very different.”

‘Chiyaan’ Vikram’s Kadaram Kondan has been a film that has intrigued fans ever since it was announced early last year by Kamal Haasan, who is producing it jointly under his Raaj Kamal Films International banner along with R. Ravindran’s Trident Arts. The film's teaser released a few months back set many talking and waiting with much anticipation on the action that was in store. For a while, the film’s release date has been a subject of debate with the team now making an important announcement. Trident Arts has now released a statement saying Vikram has finished dubbing for his portions while also revealing that the Kadaram Kondan trailer will be released soon.
