Suriya's Kaappaan movie scene happens in real life - locust attack in India | Videos Go Viral

2020 is indeed turning out to be a nightmare for India. As we all know, the Corona cases are on a constant rise and the economy has also been badly affected with lakhs and lakhs of people losing their jobs. Amidst all these crisis, here is one more serious issue that is expected to badly affect India in the coming months - LOCUST ATTACK. Well, what is a locust attack and how does it going to affect us? Locusts are a certain type of species from the family of Grasshoppers that have a swarming characteristic feature. These locusts form a group and attack all the crops and vegetation lands that in turn becomes a huge threat to agriculture. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) describe locust insects as the oldest migratory pests in the world. The desert locust, which is considered to be the deadliest type and has the ability to migrate from country to country, has entered India recently and the effects are slowly showing up.
The locusts entered the city of Jaipur yesterday (May 25) and it has come as a big shocker for the entire country. Experts opine that it is going to be the worst locust attack in the past 26 years and we aren’t sure how badly it is going to affect the agricultural economy of the country. As of now, the locusts have entered the states of Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh. Delhi has already been alerted and if things go out of control, the locust swarms might enter the Southern part of India, as well. The photos and videos of locust insects forming groups and attacking the crops have already been doing rounds on social media and it definitely seems to be a serious problem.
These videos have also made people remember the Tamil film, Kaappaan, that starred Suriya in the lead role. Wonder how Kaappaan is connected to this locust attack? Director K.V.Anand had created an awareness among the people about the locust attacks, citing it as a biowar in the agricultural sector. The film also had scenes involving these insects attacking the crops and creating a huge damage to the farmers and people of the country. Suriya played the role of a farmer in the film. Maybe, after this real life incident, people might recollect the scene and understand the connect. The social media is already abuzz about this and people are raving the writers of Kaappaan (K.V.Anand - Pattukkottai Prabakar) for bringing these serious issues to the light.
Movies have always been a reflection of the society and looking at a positive angle, it has helped in creating an awareness among the people about lesser known or unknown incidents. On that note, Kaappaan has helped people know about this locust attack, which is the current hot topic throughout the nation. If the crops and agricultural lands get affected because of this locust attack, it is going to affect the agricultural economy and in worst case, it would inturn affect the livelihood of people, as well. You can watch the locust attack videos and the Kaappaan reference videos below:

Suriya & KV Anand's Kaappaan scene inspires Tamil Nadu Government decision on Cauvery Delta!
Cinematographer turned director KV Anand has made quite a few movies, most of which are noted for their intricate and racy screenplay and which focus on real-world social issues! He recently completed 25 years in Cinema and there was a mini celebration on this front. KV Anand's last directorial venture was the 2019 release Kaappaan, which had Suriya, Arya and Sayyeshaa in the lead! This movie, which had Suriya as a Special Protection Group (SPG) agent, also had him showing a strong inclination towards agriculture and organic farming. Many scenes from KV Anand's movies, especially Kaappaan are now coming to life in reality.
Recently, there was a terrible locust attack in Gujarat, just like a scene from Kaappaan, where agricultural terrorism was shown to happen, using locusts. Similarly, another scene from this movie has now come to happen. In Kaappaan, after Arya takes over as the Prime Minister of India following his father Mohanlal's murder, he announces the Delta Region in Tamil Nadu as a special protected agricultural zone! Similarly, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has now announced the Cauvery Delta Region in our state as a Special Protected Agricultural Zone! Now, this promises to be good news for the farmers in the Delta areas.
Recently, a couple of days back, news of a Chinese doctor being arrested for gene-edited babies came to light. This was literally like the base storyline of KV Anand's Maattraan, which again had Suriya in the lead. Similarly, Russian athletes have been banned from participating in any world sports tournaments after they tested positive for banned dope substances. This is also something that KV Anand showed in Maattraan. Also, there is a scene in Kaappaan, where Suriya mentions that he is turning human feces into organic manure and now this is turning into reality in the Nilagiri district of Tamil Nadu. It is amazing how many of the things shown in director KV Anand's movies are now being seen in real life. This only goes to show the amount of research that goes into each of his movies! Way to go sir...
