Blockbuster Tamil filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon's long-awaited film, Joshua Imai Pol Kaakha, is gearing up for its theatrical release on March 1 and the makers have now released an explosive trailer giving viewers a glimpse into the action that awaits them in cinemas. The film has Bigg Boss Tamil season 5 star Varun, who impressed Tamil cinema audiences in Puppy (2019) opposite model Raahei Aarav, and is billed to be an intense action thriller with plenty trademark Gautham Menon elements. 

The Joshua Imai Pol Kaakha trailer starts off hinting an old romance between Varun as Joshua and Raahei playing Kundhavi Chidambaram after which it's action all the way till the end. We see Varun delivering the big knockout punches and kicks in the fight sequences, which are set to be a major highlight and have been choreographed by Yannick Ben, who previously collaborated with Gautham Menon on Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu (2022) and the yet-to-be-released Dhruva Natchathiram Chapter 1: Yuddha Kaandam. The Joshua Imai Pol Kaakha trailer predominantly showcases the action and how Varun is Raahei's protector, while Krishna, Dhivyadharshini, and Mansoor Ali Khan are also seen making appearances in key roles. 

Featuring songs and a background score composed by singer Karthik, Joshua Imai Pol Kaakha is arriving in theatres next month after quite a long wait and Gautham Menon's fans will no doubt be looking forward to see what he's cooked for them in the action zone. Considering Dhruva Natchathiram is yet to hit screens, GVM's upcoming film will serve as a teaser of sorts for the filmmaker's ardent fans everywhere, and the visuals show that audiences are in for a high-octane entertainer. Varun too will hope to impress with Joshua Imai Pol Kaakha after his performance in Puppy and appearances in films like Bogan, Vanamagan, Comali, and Seeru were well-received.

Yesteryear actress Vichitra is currently participating as one of the contestants on Vijay Television's Bigg Boss Tamil season 7 being hosted by 'Ulaganayagan' Kamal Haasan and is already a fan favorite to win the title. During a heart-to-heart conversation with her fellow housemates on the hit reality TV show, the popular Tamil actress, who entered cinema in 1991, opened up on her reason for quitting acting and narrated a sexual harassment incident on a film set that forced her to take the decision. Vichitra, who was also one of the finalists on the famous cooking reality show, Cooku With Comali 4, shared her unpleasant experience without revealing the name of the film and the people who harassed her during its shooting in Malampuzha, Kerala. 

During the recent Bigg Boss Tamil 7 episode, Vichitra shared about facing her demons and said, "It was the year 2000 and a late actor suggested me to work in a film. I don't want to speak about the picture details and all that. The shooting took place in Malampuzha where I also met my husband for the first time since he was working there. As the shooting was scheduled, I had to stay there and had a very big issue. You all must be familiar with casting issues in films and I faced a harrowing experience in that film. Everyone is aware of me disappearing from films after 2001, but nobody knows the reason apart from my family and close circle. It became a big issue at the time, but in my mind, it has been a wound that hasn't healed. If I tell this out, I think I have won my demons. I still remember that it was a top hero's film. There was upgrading being done on a 3-storey hotel. My husband, who was working there at the time, came and told me that there was going to be a party and invited me to join along. So, I met the hero of the picture and he didn't even ask my name. The first word he said was, 'Are you acting in this film?' I said, 'Yes'. He then told me to come to his room. Immediately, it was a big shock as I couldn't understand what kind of gesture that was. However, I just decided to go to my room and instead, I slept." 

Vichitra continued, "After that, I began facing many issues from the next day at the shooting spot. The scene wouldn’t be shot on time. I didn't face these issues in Tamil films and don't know whether this was my bad luck or a bad time. After 6 p.m. in the evening, everyone would get drunk and start knocking on my door. I still remember the banging of the doors. I told the receptionist not to connect any calls and leave me alone. I wanted to do my work and manage until I left. But that didn’t happen. The issues kept cropping up. Then, my husband, who was not even a friend, asked me how he could be of help. I told him that I wanted to change my room and that nobody should know where I was staying. So, during that schedule, I was staying in a different room every single day, and they all helped me. I would be in the room opposite my previous room and I'd still hear the banging there. It was not just one person. There would be several people." 

Vichitra then said, "They got irritated and wanted to teach me a lesson. During the shooting in a forest on the next day, it was a village scene and the atmosphere had fighters and the stunt master was there. It was a riot scene and the people had to run everywhere. During the scene, I felt that someone was touching me inappropriately. When this happened for the third time, I caught hold of the person who touched me and dragged him to the stunt master to complain. But, he just took the person's hands away and gave me a big, tight slap on the set. I looked stunned wondering the reason for his actions. I looked around to see if anyone would come and help me, but no one did. So, I walked off the set as I was filled with fear, anger, and embarrassment."

Revealing that she immediately contacted the actor's union in Chennai, Vichitra said that she was asked to return from the sets and write a formal complaint. However, no action was initiated against her abusers despite her efforts. "I was beaten, and held forcefully, I had blood clots on my hands and on my back, including the mark of the slap on my cheek. All this was reported in the newspapers, but nothing transpired. No one came for me. It need not go to the extent of rape... even manhandling and slapping a woman at a workplace are also crimes. The secretary at the time then told me to go to the police and not to approach the Sangam."

Vichitra then explained about taking the legal route and the interrogation calling it an "ugly procedure". She also spoke about how her husband came down to help her with the evidence, but she was still left devastated. Breaking down, she said, "Nothing happened and I didn’t know if I should continue to act. I was worried about whether my family could survive. I asked myself, 'Why this cine field?' No one came. Not one person showed up. Perhaps, everyone thought I deserved the treatment, and the president of the Sangam too had told me to forget everything and go back to work. I can’t forget that to this date. Then, my husband asked me one question, 'Is this what you are working for? If there's no dignity for you at a place, why be there?' It felt like a big slap. I worked and struggled in the industry for 10 years and appeared in around 100 films. I thought the film industry was my family. Then, I realized it wasn’t. I wanted to find my family and voluntarily quit the field because there was no use since there was no respect for my feelings. Then, I went into a shell and wanted a peaceful family life. That's when my husband said, 'You're not an actress what I see outside and I want to get married to you.' I've worked with many heroes, but to me, he's my hero. He married me, gave me a dignified life, and we had three sons.' Vichitra concluded her statement by making an appeal to everyone to be there for each other saying that any crime needs to be addressed immediately.

Galatta Plus Mega Tamil Roundtable 2023 witnessed some of the biggest and most talented names in Tamil cinema for a heart-to-heart conversation about the love for films, with National Award-winning film critic Baradwaj Rangan, the Editor-in-Chief of Galatta Plus, playing host. Among the names who shared their views on the current state of Tamil cinema were esteemed filmmakers Mani Ratnam, Vetri Maaran, Sudha Kongara, Mari Selvaraj, Madonne Ashwin, and P.S. Vinothraj, who also drew their own experiences from each of their films. In that light, Vetri Maaran explained his point of view on whether only big hero films can generate a big box office gross in response to Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan, 'Superstar' Rajinikanth's Jailer, 'Thalapathy' Vijay's Leo and Varisu, and Ajith Kumar's Thunivu, while also referencing his own Viduthalai and filmmaker Pradeep Ranganathan's Love Today. 

During the discussion at the Galatta Plus Mega Tamil Roundtable 2023, Vetri Maaran said, "After COVID, getting people to the theatres is not an easy thing. If I must come to the theatre, I need to have the urge to take a risk. And, it comes down to why I must take a risk. I feel the initial opening... For a big star, all theatres, shows, and screens are opened up for them. But, I personally feel that post-COVID, the initial pull is based on your film's trailer, teaser, or whatever it is. Even for big heroes' films, if the trailer doesn't work, the response on the first day and first show is lesser. Then, slowly, the word of mouth might increase and improve it. But, when the stars come... like Mani sir was the star of Ponniyin Selvan... A star is needed in such circumstances. Only a star-driven film will make audiences want to come to theatres. It has even become a business strategy." He added, "All the theatres are screening big star films in the belief that the audiences will come in. It is enough if they come for the first 10-15 days and then you're set. It's doing big numbers. And, that kind of money being generated within the industry is good for the industry. How much good it is doing for the artistic aspect of films is a secondary thing. But, overall, I think it's good because more money means better salaries."

Vetri Maaran further explained, "Now, I'm talking about Viduthalai because I was a part of the film. Many people said Viduthalai was a good film and many people watched it. But, if you take a superstar film, and I'm referring to all the big stars, the amount it collects in a day or two is Viduthalai's total collection. But, whatever this stands, it's a hit. So, these kind of films also do well. If we're talking about big numbers, it's only possible in films with big heroes and a big investment. If you're investing 10 crores in a film, why should we expect 100 crores? Why can't we be happy with 15 crores or 18 crores? When you're putting in 200 crores, then you expect 300 or 400 crores. But, if we think that our films are not making those numbers on a 10-crore budget, we need not make those collections." He continued, "There are some exceptional films that connect with the audiences like Love Today. They said that it made around 7-8 times the investment. That is a rare exception. We need not take that into consideration. You invest 10, see if you're getting 15 or 20, we're happy. And, anything more than that, we're going to take it. We're not going to say NO. But, I feel this margin is good enough."

Tamil actor Dhileepan Pugazhendhi and his wife Athulya Palakkal have announced their pregnancy along with a special message on Thursday, November 16. The popular actor shared the big news on social media and informed that they are expecting their first child in February 2024, with wishes pouring in from all quarters. Dhileepan Pugazhendhi, who is the grandson of Pulavar Pulamaipithan, once again expressed his joy and excitement for the next big chapter of his life by posting a sonogram picture writing, "6th month it is ❤️🥰 Can’t wait till February to hold the little hands of our baby ❤️ @athulya__dhileepan 🫂" (sic) Dhileepan stated in June that it was a blessing to be a husband after tying the knot with Athulya, a popular Malayalam social media star back in May. On the work front, Dhileepan Pugazhendhi is currently filming a project titled Saagaavaram, which is in its final stages of filming. He is also playing the lead in Antony, which is in the beginning stages of production, with plans to bring both films out in cinemas as pan-Indian ventures in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Malayalam languages next year.

Popular Telugu actor Tharun Kumar's name has been in the news after rumors began circulating about his marriage. There were reports claiming him to soon become a part of the Telugu film industry's 'Mega' family, with the actor on Wednesday, August 2, clearing the air on social media by issuing a clarification. In light of the rumors taking flight surrounding his wedding, Tharun wrote a note Instagram stating, "I've come across a few articles and news about my 'supposed' wedding doing the rounds on social media. I wanted to let you all know that the news is nothing more than a baseless rumour. Rest assured, I'd be more than happy to share such big news. Please refrain from believing or spreading this rumour. Earlier, rumors began doing the rounds stating Tharun was going to become a son-in-law in the 'Mega' family, which includes Chiranjeevi, Allu Aravind, Nagendra Babu, Pawan Kalyan, Allu Arjun, Ram Charan,Varun Tej, Sai Dharam Tej, Niharika, Allu Sirish, and Panja Vaisshnav Tej. The popular Telugu actor's latest statement will no doubt put an end to the spread of the wrong rumors linking him to soon becoming a part of the 'Mega' family. Although not seen on the big screen since Idi Naa Love Story (2018), Tharun continues to enjoy a huge fan following, with many waiting to witnessing him in action once again. 

Tharun garnered immense fame as a child artiste winning the prestigious Nandi Award for Best Child Actor on three occasions. He became a household name among Tamil cinema fans after playing Arjun in ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam's cult classic Anjali (1990), which earned him the National Film Award for Best Child Artist alongside his co-stars Shruti and Shamili, who as well appeared in key roles. After making a transition to lead roles during the 1990s, Tharun appeared alongside Sneha, Kunal, and Hamsavardhan in Punnagai Desam (2002), while also starring as the hero in Enakku 20 Unakku 18 (2003) opposite Trisha and Shriya Saran, which featured chart-topping hit songs composed by Academy Award winner A. R. Rahman.

Sakshi Dhoni, wife of former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, is debuting as a film producer with the Tamil film, Let's Get Married, releasing in theatres worldwide on July 28. Produced under the Dhoni Entertainment Pvt. Ltd banner, the upcoming film has been directed by debutant Ramesh Thamilmani and will see Harish Kalyan and Ivana in the lead roles alongside an ensemble star cast featuring the likes of Nadiya Moidu, Yogi Babu, VTV Ganesh, RJ Vijay, Srinath, Deepa Shankar, Vinodhini Vaidynathan, Pujitha Devaraju, Venkat Prabhu among others. With only a few days left for Let's Get Married to storm into cinemas, Sakshi Dhoni and the team have been promoting the film extensively and addressed media persons on Tuesday in Chennai where she was asked the film genre she would like to see her husband MS Dhoni act as a hero in. 

Speaking to reports at the Let's Get Married press meet, Sakshi Dhoni revealed that MS Dhoni is up for playing the role of a hero on the big screen, but only if there's a good script. She said, "If there’s something good, he might do it." She added, "He is not camera-shy. He has been acting in advertisements since 2006, and he is not afraid of facing the camera. So, he might do it if there’s something good." When asked about the genre she prefers to see Dhoni in, she replied instantly saying, "Action. He is always in action." Let's Get Married director Ramesh Thamilmani too shared his opinion stating, "He is a real-life superhero, and I would like to see him in a superhero film."

Sakshi also revealed that it was MS Dhoni's emotional connection with the people of Tamil Nadu that made him decide to start in Tamil with Let's Get Married. Earlier, during the LGM trailer launch event, she shared that Tamil Nadu had adopted Dhoni as their own while adding that it was a strategic decision to start with a small-budget film. She said, "We were clear that we will start with something small first. That’s the way to go. Like a child would not start walking immediately. It has to learn. That applies to us as well. Also, we wanted to start in Tamil because we have an emotional connection with people here. Language has never been a problem for us. We have started this company that will last for a long time. So, we want to begin from here. When we look back, we want this to be for starting point. We will know where we came from."

Project K is one of the films mounted on a massive budget in the history of Indian cinema. The star-studded film has Prabhas playing the lead role and is his upcoming project after Salaar. The makers of the film, Vyjayanthi Movies, have revealed the first look of the actor in the film. The first look poster shows a glimpse of the look of the actor from the film sporting an armoured suit that looks futuristic. It also has 'What is Project K?" written on it. A few days ago, the makers revealed the first look of actress Deepika Padukone from Project K, which went viral. The makers have revealed the first look of the characters in the film ahead of its debut at San Diego Comic-Con on June 20 (US time) and June 21 (IST). The first glimpse of the film will also be revealed at the event. The sci-fi film is the first from Indian cinema to host a panel at an international event. The makers of the film had also revealed that the actor duo Prabhas and Rana Daggubati landed in the USA yesterday. They also shared a picture of Kamal Haasan, who is said to be playing the role of an antagonist in the film, walking the streets of an American city in style.

Project K has created huge anticipation, as the announcement posters shows it could be a dystopian thriller that is helmed by Nag Ashwin of Mahanati fame. The film has an exciting cast that includes Pan-Indian star actors Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, Disha Patani and others in important roles. Popular Tamil music director Santhosh Narayanan is composing songs and background score for the film. The film is to release in theatres on 12th January, 2024.

Kalyani Priyadharshan is a popular Malayalam movie actress who has also acted in the hit Tamil film Maanaadu alongside actor Silambarasan TR. The actress is currently filming for the movie Antony which has popular actor Joju George in the lead role. The actress sustained a minor injury during the filming of the movie. She has shared on her Instagram stories a short video of a bruised upper left arm and saying it happened on the Day 29 of shooting of the film. She said, “Antony: Day 29? Fragile Fragile . Stunts are not for the weak”. This news about the actress has become viral on social media.

Kalyani Priyadharshan has hinted through the short video that shooting action sequences are not her forte. The film Antony is directed by popular Malayalam director Joshiy who has made films like Paappan, Porinju Mariam Jose, etc. and is scripted by Rajesh Varma. The film has Joju George playing the lead with Nyal Usha, Cemban Vinod Jose, Vijayaraghavan and Kalyani Priyadharshan in pivotal roles. The film went on floors in the first week of May. On the technical front, the film will have music by Jakes Bejoy and has created excitement among people. From the picture shared by the actress, it looks like the film has action sequences.

Kalyani Priyadharshan is the daughter of the popular Indian filmmaker Priyadarshan and actress Lissy. The actress made her debut in 2017 with the film Telugu film Hello and she starred alongside Akhil Akkineni in the movie. The Tamil debut of the actress was with Sivakarthikeyan in the superhero film Hero, She then acted alongside Dulquer Salman in the feel-good entertainer Varane Avashyamund. The actress then acted in Many films and last year she was a part of three-hit films including the blockbuster hit Hridayam, Bro Daddy and Thallumaala alongside Tovino Thomas.
 

Blockbuster Telugu film producer-distributor Dil Raju's Sri Venkateswara Creations announced on Wednesday, June 14, its next big film after the phenomenal success of 'Thalapathy' Vijay's Varisu in Tamil earlier this year. The prestigious production banner's next is tentatively titled SVC54 / VD13 and will see Telugu superstar Vijay Deverakonda sharing screen space with Mrunal Thakur, who became a national sensation after she played the female lead in Sita Ramam opposite Dulquer Salmaan last year. A grand pooja ceremony for Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur's VD13 was held earlier today, which saw the two stars along with producer Dil Raju and the film's director Parasuram Petla of Geetha Govindam (2018) and Sarkaru Vaari Paata (2022) fame take part in the proceedings. 

There has been quite a lot of buzz surrounding VD13 for quite some time now and the announcement today signals the start of the production in the days ahead. The film marks a reunion for Vijay Deverakonda with director Parasuram, who previously worked in the romantic Geetha Govindam, which went on to become a massive box-office success. VD13 is also the first time Mrunal Thakur is collaborating with Dil Raju's Sri Venkateswara Creations and the leading actress expressed her excitement at sharing the screen with Vijay Deverakonda on her Instagram page along with pictures from the pooja ceremony.

As a special surprise, Sujatha Rangarajan, wife of the famous Tamil writer Sujatha felicitated the event. The actor became emotional seeing her arrive and broke down on stage, he then got her blessings. The anchor then introduced her saying Siddharth was working as an assistant to director Mani Ratnam and it was Sujatha Rangarajan who recommended him as an actor to Shankar. Sujatha Rangarajan began by saying “I told my husband let's, suggest him to Shankar, he said no that boy wants to become a director. I said he will be perfect for the role and I told Shankar. When Shankar called he (Siddharth) said no, he wanted to become a director and then Shankar asked him to come just once for a photo shoot. Mani Ratnam also said go and Shankar was fixed saying 'you are the hero'. I said getting a hero role is tough and asked Siddharth to take it up."

The actor first introduced Sujatha Rangarajan, to the audience. Siddharth then revealed that he got to know only later that she was the one who recommended him to Shankar sir that there is a boy in Mani Ratnam's office and "everyone would believe her intuition." The actress then said “If she had not said that at that time, My life would have taken a different path. But I would not be sitting here celebrating 20 years of Siddharth." Watch full video:
