AR Murugadoss is one of the leading directors who had done many films in Tamil and some in Telugu and Hindi. The director is known for making commercial entertainers. The filmmaker made his debut with Ajith Kumar’s Dheena and then did many films with prominent heroes including Vijaykanth, Vijay, Suriya, Telugu star Mahesh Babu and Hindi actress Amir Khan and Akshay Kumar. The latest film that was released by the director was Darbar which has Rajinikanth as lead. It was set in Mumbai and revolves around a high-level cop. The director has also produced many films helmed by his assistant directors. The upcoming film 16 August 1947 produced by him is set to release in theatres.

Ahead of the release of the film, The Director gave an exclusive interview with National award-winning critic Baradwaj Rangan, the editor-in-Chief of Galatta Plus. When the interviewer asked why some of his films does not work sometimes. The Director said “After some time I thought this craft, writing of the story, filmmaking comes to us quickly. That is what I had evaluated myself wrongly. So when Rajinikanth sir said the film (Darbar) has to start in March, in June there will be rainy season in Bombay and in August he wants to start his political party. So, within this time limit I had to shoot in February. I am a hard-core Rajini Sir fan. So, for any reason, I did not want to miss the opportunity. At that time, it was talked about as the last film of Rajini sir because of his political entry. We committed to do the film in February and to start shooting in March and completed the film within June. I just want to give a hit film with Rajinikanth at the same time, I should not miss it, That is where I got it wrong. For any person who is involved in a skillful craft, if there is no correct planning then it will end up wrong. That is what it thought me. But, there is a time before shooting, right, however, with the time we have we should have planned (the film). That too, if we shoot in Bombay, Today, location, costume, shooting and juniors and today all crafts should give their 100%."

A.R. Murugadoss then added what Amir Khan said to him while shooting Gajini. The director said “Amir Khan said he has not revealed this secret to anyone and said 'I am telling this to you, sir. if anyone begins a film by saying at this date, we are going to release this film, and then begins the film. 50% chance that that film will flop in the beginning itself. First, you start. Check how fast the film is going, if there is anything wrong in the craft. Is there any change is it coming out like we want it to after 10 days of editing it and watching it together with the crew. Then when the film is over 80-90% you should plan the release.' I got to know that this is true with experience. I learn't that when you are a director you should not give place to the fan you are to the actor, or big salary be the reason to slip, that is what I learn't from the movie (Darbar).

Blockbuster Tamil filmmaker AR Murugadoss has produced films like Engaeyum Eppothum, Raja Rani, Maan Karate, 10 Endrathukulla, Rangoon to name a notable few, and is set to present his next, August 16, 1947, which has been directed by his former associate NS Ponkumar. The upcoming period action drama film scheduled to release on April 7 had its audio launch at Sathyam Cinemas on Monday evening, which witnessed several big names grace the occasion, including Sivakarthikeyan. During his speech at the August 16, 1947 audio launch, Murugadoss turned emotional at a moment while describing the sets of the film, and how he was reminded of the late art director T. Santhanam with whom he collaborated in 'Thalapathy' Vijay's Sarkar (2018) and Darbar with 'Superstar' Rajinikanth (2020). 

During his speech , AR Murugadoss turned emotional while speaking about the sets created for August 16, 1947 and T. Santhanam's hard work. He said, "The only big factor missing is art director Santhanam, who left us all. His loss is something I'm able to come to terms with. We worked in Sarkar and Darbar. He worked on this film for me for less salary since it's a small budget venture. He created an entire village in an abandoned land on the outskirts and he sent a photograph of the sets. When I saw the picture, I told him that all the huts look similar and should appear different. One hut must look like it was created two years back, another one 5 years back and so on. I then took a car the next day and went to the sets. As soon as I arrived, I was stunned at how he changed everything in those 24 hours. You are witness to that transformation that you just watched in some of the visuals. He did a fantastic job and told me to send this to all the award ceremonies. His family has come here today. He could have been here with us for his children."

In tragic news, popular Tamil film art director T. Santhanam, who became famous after his work in the 2010 cult classic Aayirathil Oruvan, has passed away. He was 50. According to reports, Santhanam died due to cardiac arrest on the night of Sunday, October 23. The news of the art director's sudden passing has left many in the film industry in a state of grief, with fans as well expressing their heartfelt condolences on social media. Acclaimed Tamil filmmaker Vasanthabalan was one among those in the film fraternity to pay his tributes in a heartfelt post on his Facebook page and shared his working experience with Santhanam during the filming of Kaaviya Thalaivan in 2014. He also shared a photo featuring them both, which was taken right after the late art director had won the Tamil Nadu State Award for his work in Kaaviya Thalaivan. 

After working under Selvaraghavan's direction in Aayirathil Oruvan, which starred Karthi, Reema Sen, and Andrea Jeremiah in the lead roles, and featured chart-buster music by G. V. Prakash Kumar, T. Santhanam's next big film was Deiva Thirumagal featuring 'Chiyaan' Vikram, Sara Arjun, Anushka Shetty, and Amala Paul, and was helmed by A. L. Vijay in 2011. The film turned out to be a massive critical and commercial success, with the entire technical team garnering praise, including Santhanam's work in the art direction department. He followed it up with commendable work in Sudha Kongara's hit Irudhi Suttru in 2016, which had Madhavan and Ritika Singh in the lead roles, with the film turning out to be yet another critical success, and Santhanam earning appreciation for his skills yet again. 

T. Santhanam's career took flight soon after when he landed big gigs in ventures namely the 2018 box office blockbuster, Sarkar, starring 'Thalapathy' Vijay and Keerthy Suresh under A. R. Murugadoss' direction. Produced by Sun Pictures, the film went on to become a massive commercial success and one of the highest-grossing ventures in Vijay's career. Santhanam's next biggie was the 'Superstar' Rajinikanth and Nayanthara-starrer Darbar in 2020, which once again reunited him with filmmaker A. R. Murugadoss, and expected the film turned out to be a huge money-spinner at the box office. There was no stopping the hit art director thereafter as he signed up for Karthik Subbaraj's Jagame Thandhiram starring Dhanush and Mahaan, which saw the father-son duo 'Chiyaan' Vikram and Dhruv Vikram share screen space for the first time. T Santhanam's next big film is the upcoming period action drama, August 16, 1947, directed by NS Ponkumar under the AR Murugadoss Productions banner and stars Gautham Karthik in the lead role. 

We have now entered the final month of what has otherwise been a grief-stricken year as the coronavirus pandemic has brought life to a complete standstill. Similarly, popular model and actress Gauahar Khan, who became a nationwide sensation after taking home the Bigg Boss 7 winner title in 2013, has now made an announcement in regard to the next important chapter of her life. 

Taking to her social media page, Gauahar Khan recently surprised fans when she announced her engagement to her boyfriend, Zaid Darbar, thus ending months of speculations about the status of their relationship as they had often been spotted together on many occasions. Now, Gauahar has once again taken to her Instagram page to announce that she will be entering wedlock with Zaid Darbar on December 25, with wishes pouring in for them from celebrities and personalities from all walks of life. 

Having appeared in notable Hindi films like Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year, Once Upon a Time in Mumbai, Game, Ishaqzaade, Badrinath Ki Dulhania and Begum Jaan to name a few, Gauahar also made her South Indian debut in 'Mega Star' Chiranjeevi's Shankar Dada M.B.B.S. in a special appearance in the "Naa Pera Kanchan Mala" song. Zaid Darbar, actor and son of music director Ismail Darbar, had proposed to Gauahar in July.

Taking to her Instagram page, Gauahar Khan shared pictures of herself with Zaid Darbar along with a message to her followers regarding her big special day. Her post read, "The year 2020 has been anything but ordinary, and our love story through it all has been nothing short of extraordinary! It gives us immense joy to announce that we are tying the knot and embarking on a journey of forever! Keeping in mind the current scenario, we will be celebrating the big day with our family in an intimate ceremony. We seek your blessings and love and are eternally grateful for the constant support and the outpour of warm wishes we have received. We hope for every soul to find its mate and pray for every heart to find its reason to beat. All our love, Gauahar and Zaid."

Superstar Rajinikanth's Darbar which released earlier this year for the festive occasion of Pongal, got mixed reviews from the critics and general audience. However, Rajini's fans liked the film for the Thalaivar moments it had. The latest good news is that this A.R.Murugadoss directorial is all set to have its first ever television premiere on Sun TV, coming April 14 at 6.30 PM, for the special occasion of Tamil New Year. It also marks the 27th year anniversary of Sun TV. Hearing upon this news, the fans are excited to catch the film on the small screen.

The household audience and people who couldn't watch the film until now can sit back and enjoy it on television on April 14. Bankrolled by Lyca Productions, Darbar has music scored by Anirudh Ravichander and cinematography by Santosh Sivan. The film features Nivetha Thomas as Rajinikanth's daughter and the duo's relationship is one of the major highlights of the film.

Similarly, the Telugu dubbed version of the film will have its premiere on April 10 at 6.30 PM in Gemini TV. The Hindi version will have its telecast on Star Gold TV channel today (April 5) at 12 Noon. The Malayalam and Kannada dubbed versions are also expected to be premiered very soon on Surya TV and Udaya TV respectively.

Superstar Rajinikanth’s Darbar released this year for the festive occasion of Pongal and it managed to impress the mainstream commercial audience. The film was directed by A.R.Murugadoss and had Nayanthara playing the female lead. Darbar’s music was scored by Anirudh Ravichander who delivered a chartbuster album that had a variety of songs. One such song was ‘Kannula Thimiru’, which unfortunately, didn’t find a place in the album of Darbar. The audience had to listen to the song officially only in the theatres, along with the visuals.

The video of ‘Kannula Thimiru’ song was one of the major highlights of Darbar and it made the fans go crazy. Superstar’s charismatic screen presence, along with the iconic ‘Annamalai’ BGM elevated the overall mood of the scene and it was nothing short of a celebration in the theatres. The makers have now, for the first time, released the song’s lyric video on YouTube and it has surprised the fans. However, only half of the song has been released, as the rest of the portion includes the Annamalai BGM track and it will result in copyright related problems.

‘Kannula Thimiru’ has been crooned by three transgenders, Chandramukhi Muvvala, Priya Murthy Chadalawala, Rachana Mudraboyina, and it has been penned by lyricist Vivek. After the massive success of Petta, Superstar Rajinikanth teamed up with ace director AR Murugadoss for the cop action thriller film titled Darbar which was produced by Subaskaran under the big banner of Lyca Productions. The star cast of Darbar featured Lady Superstar Nayanthara, Sunil Shetty, Nivetha Thomas, Yogi Babu, Thambi Ramaiya, Sriman, Prateik Babbar and others in important roles. Cinematography and editing are handled by Santhosh Sivan and Sreekar Prasad respectively. With huge expectation, Darbar hit the theatres on January 9th, 2020 on the special occasion of Pongal and the movie opened to positive reviews from fans and was declared a hit at the box-office.

Darbar had a decent run at the theatres and the movie moved on to one of the leading OTT platforms, Amazon Prime and was made live on February 23rd. As part of their promotions, Amazon Prime has released a small promo of the song Kannula Thimiru from the film. One of the biggest releases of Kollywood to hit the screens this year is Superstar Rajinikanth's Darbar. This AR Murugadoss directorial, which was bankrolled by Subaskaran Allirajah under the Lyca Productions banner, hit the screens for this year's Pongal, on January 9th! The movie is still running in some screens but the word is that it did not perform as well as expected, at the Box Office. Distributors of Darbar in many regions, alleged that they had lost heavily on this movie and tried meeting with Superstar and director AR Murugadoss, to seek compensation.

However, the distributors were not able to meet Rajini but they met AR Murugadoss. This issue spiralled into a full-blown controversy when the distributors began demanding that they be compensated but were restrained by the Police and nobody from the Darbar team responded to their requests. AR Murugadoss had even approached the Chennai High Court, seeking protection for himself from any harm befalling him. However, despite the Case still being in Court, it looks like he has withdrawn his request for Police protection. On this note, the Chennai High Court has condemned the Darbar director.

Reports state that the Court has questioned Murugadoss on whether he thinks the Court should work according to his whims and fancies, dancing to his tunes. Following AR Murugadoss withdrawing his request for protection, the Chennai High Court has dismissed his petition, overall. It is still not clear if the Darbar distributors have settled their issues with the producers, Rajinikanth and AR Murugadoss. Stay tuned to Galatta.com for all the latest updates on this issue!

Superstar Rajinikanth’s Darbar released earlier this year during the festive season of Pongal. Rajinikanth’s charismatic screen presence and charming energy made the fans love the film, while the father - daughter sentiment struck a chord with the family audiences. Nivetha Thomas was seen as Rajinikanth’s daughter in the film and the duo’s chemistry worked in the favour of the film. The makers have now released the Original Sound Track (OST) of the film on Gaana audio streaming platform. OST is the compilation of all the background music tracks that we got to hear in the film.

Darbar’s background music by Anirudh Ravichander was one of the major positives of the film and it elevated the mood and energy of many scenes. The OST has now been released online and the fans have been delightfully listening to it. The YouTube version of the OST is yet to be released and a section of fans were seemed to be disappointed with that. Let us hope that we get to see the YouTube version within the next few days.

Nivetha Thomas is one of the happening stars in K-town right now, especially after her impactful and beautiful performance as Valli in Rajinikanth’s Darbar, directed by A.R.Murugadoss. Nivetha played the character of Rajinikanth’s daughter in the film and the duo’s relationship was the core emotion of the film and it struck a chord with the audience. On that note, Nivetha has now shared a note on her social media space and in this note, she has shared the experience of working in Darbar and how it made her realize the conviction and hard work of the team.

She shared a picture of her look in the ‘Dumm Dumm’ video song in Darbar in which she appears for two to three seconds. Despite being a one small shot, the work that went behind it is said to be immense and Nivetha was all praise for her Darbar team. She also requested the fans and the audience not to write off any film simply because there is a lot of hard work and focus that goes into making one film.

A shot lasting 2 seconds in the film took 2 flights, hours of prep, a day’s shoot and a night’s stay to work :) Film making is a tedious and disciplined process. It follows a method, involves people, equipment, management, planning and immense effort. Spend a day on set to understand what it means when technicians and actors from the industry say, “The team has put in a lot of hard work!” Though it’s easy to say ‘cliche’ when you hear stuff often, take a moment to think more about why they say it. Enjoy a film for the experience! Bitter, sweet, fun, fantasy, painful, revengeful, (I’m still figuring out what ‘commercial films’ mean), just go be one with the film you see! :) Be kinder, be nicer :) Every word that comes from your mouth spreads and it definitely, matters.
