By Arvind Sundaram | Galatta | 06:00 PM
Earlier this morning (May 6), a section of media had reported that veteran director Bharathiraja has been quarantined at home after undergoing tests for Corona at his native, Theni. This created a confusion among the public. Following that, Bharathiraja himself has now clarified and given a clear picture on the entire issue. He stated that he decided to self-isolate as a precautionary measure and there’s no truth to the speculations doing rounds. He also added that he has been tested negative for Corona.
He said, “This morning, news was doing rounds that I was asked by the health officials to self-isolate and be on quarantine at my home. I would like to clarify on what really happened. My sister is not feeling well and she is under medication at Theni. It was an emergency and so I had to come here to visit her. I followed the legal procedures and got the e-pass to travel from Chennai to Theni. As I crossed many districts and reached here, the health officials advised me to take tests, as a precaution. I was tested for Corona here and my result was negative. I’ve been tested 3 times for Corona so far and it has been negative all the three times.
The first time was in Chennai, and the second was at Aandipatti, while the third was here at Theni. Two of my assistants travelled along with me and they have also been tested negative. However, as a precautionary measure, we ourselves decided to self-isolate and be safe. There is no need for people to panic. I request the media and news channels, not to create any confusion or panic situation among the people as we are happy and healthy. I am currently working with my assistants right now, discussing the theme and story of our next film. We are completely fine.” Well, we hope this puts all the speculations to rest. Bala's reply to Bharathiraja
By Ambili S | Galatta | 08:18 PM
Two maverick directors Bala and Bharathiraja are involved in a verbal spat over the story of Kuttraparambarai, a story set in the pre-independence era that narrates about the lives of a fading tribal community who are professional thieves. Ace writer and Bharathiraja's close associate Rathnakumar and writer-turned-actor Vela Ramamoorthy claim that Kuttra Parambarai is their story. In an interview to a leading daily, Rathnakumar revealed that they have already approached Sivaji and Sarathkumar to play the lead role, however, due to Sivaji's ill health the shooting was stalled. Director Bharathiraja has also kickstarted the project officially in Usilampatti recently.
Now its Bala's turn, in a press meet, the Avan Ivan director clarified his stand on the issue. He said that his story is totally different from Kuttraparambarai and he is only taking a branch from Vela Ramamurthy's Kootanchoru. "I am warning Bharathiraja and Rathnakumar to refrain from using my name," he added. He further said that Kuttraparambarai is history and no one can claim ownership for it. When asked about Bharathiraja's comments on casting other language actors (Arya, Vishal) in the film, Bala said, "Cinema is a world language and to differentiate cinema on the basis of linguistic, religion or geography is a disgusting thought."
Bala also confirmed that he will be going ahead with the project and it will not be based on any story. It would rather base on his take on the history (an adaptation of a branch-story from Kootanchoru by Vela Ramamurthy).
