Tamil actor Vijay honored students who secured top marks at the 10th and 12th-grade public examinations across all 234 constituencies in Tamil Nadu earlier this year at the 'Thalapathy' Vijay Education Award Ceremony on June 17 in Chennai. During the event, the Tamil superstar addressed the toppers and appealed to them to read about great leaders like Periyar, Kamaraj, and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, while informing everyone of the important role education plays in elevating a person's stature in society. In his speech, Vijay also used a popular dialogue spoken by actor Dhanush in acclaimed filmmaker Vetri Maaran's 2019 film, Asuran, as a reference to shed light on the importance of education.

On Sunday, Vetri Maaran attended a drug abuse awareness drive organized by the Greater Chennai Police and took part in a media interaction where he was asked about his views after listening to Vijay speaking the dialogue from Asuran. He said, "It's something we showed in the cinema. When it reaches an influential person in society, I see it as a big example of a positive impact." Upon being cited that Vijay urged the students to read more about Periyar, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, and Kamaraj, the National Award-winning filmmaker stated, "What he said on that stage is that we must know our history, right? We must read about Periyar, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, Kamaraj, and C. N. Annadurai too." Watch the video below:

Vijay's speech and his efforts to honor the students, their parents and teachers have been the talk of the town as social media has been abuzz about the 'Thalapathy' Vijay Education Award Ceremony since yesterday. The actor's public appearance has once again sparked a debate regarding his political entry, with many claiming that he might be considering the move in the years ahead. On the work front, Vijay is currently busy with Leo under Lokesh Kanagaraj's direction and will be looking to complete filming soon ahead of its October 19 release plans. The actor will join hands next with Venkat Prabhu for the tentatively titled Thalapathy 68, which will release in 2024. Vetri Maaran, on the other hand, is fresh from the success of Viduthalai: Part 1 and is at present working on bringing the sequel, Viduthalai: Part 2, to theatres later this year. He has several projects in various stages of development, including the highly-anticipated Vaadivaasal with Suriya, while the filmmaker is also in talks with Vijay for a film in the future.
