By Avinash Pandian | Galatta | 06:00 PM
Gautham Menon has a handful of projects in his kitty such as Dhruva Natchathiram, Queen season 2, Joshua Imai Pol Kaakha, and an untitled anthology produced by Netflix. GVM will be teaming up with directors like Sudha Kongara, Vetri Maaran and Vignesh Shivn for this anthology. In a recent interview, GVM has updated the status of all his projects. GVM revealed that he is planning to release Dhruva Natchathiram in the month of June while Imai Pol Kaakha will release even before that. He also announced that singer Karthik will be composing tunes for Imai Pol Kaakha. It must be noted that Darbuka Siva was initially roped in to score music for this stylish action thriller but now it looks Karthick has taken up that role.
Gautham Menon also added that his 30 minutes portion for the Netflix anthology will be on the lines of Vetri Maaran’s Asuran. “I wanted to see if I could do something like Asuran, breaking away from my template of films. I want to step out of my comfort zone and explore different stuff. I don’t mind visiting the interior parts of rural Tamil Nadu for a project.” adds GVM!!!
Rajinikanth's reaction to Asuran interval scene revealed by Kalaipuli S. Thanu
By Vivek Raj | Galatta | 02:46 PM
National Award winners Vetri Maaran and Dhanush's fourth-time collaboration, the period action drama, Asuran, after Pollathavan, Aadukalam and Vada Chennai, went on to taste massive critical and box office success after its theatrical release last year and still continues to be a widely streamed film on Amazon Prime. An adaptation of the acclaimed Tamil writer, Poomani’s novel titled, Vekkai, the blockbuster film produced by Kalaipuli S. Thanu’s V Creations banner featured chart-buster songs and a thunderous background score by G. V. Prakash Kumar.
With the film last week completing a century in its theatrical run, producer Kalaipuli S. Thanu today during the Asuran 100 days success meet went on to speak about veteran iconic actor Rajinikanth's reaction after watching the film. Producer Thanu stated, "'Superstar' Rajinikanth enjoyed Asuran a lot and screamed 'Baasha Baasha' during Dhanush's interval block transformation scene. Rajini sir also said that he should have acted in the film after watching the scene where Dhanush falls at people's feet in front of the public in that locality,". This is the first we've heard of Rajinikanth's reaction after he watched the film and is no doubt interesting, which makes us wonder how his own interpretation to Dhanush's Sivasaami character adapted to screen by Vetri Maaran from writer Poomani's Vekkai would have turned out to be.
Apart from Vetri Maaran’s direction and intense screenplay and Dhanush’s portrayal of his character, Asuran stands out with its star cast’s performances among whom Malayalam actress Manju Warrier, and Teejay Arunasalam leave a lasting impression followed by Ken Karunas, Balaji Sakthivel, Pasupathi, Ammu Abhirami, Prakash Raj, Pawan, A. Venkatesh playing their roles amicably.

Asuran is easily one of Dhanush’s career best performances that will stay memorable in the hearts of the Tamil audience for years. He brought life to the character of Sivasaamy and the film’s emotions worked big time because of his impactful performance. He was strongly supported by proven actors like Manju Warrier, Pasupathi and Prakash Raj, while newcomer Ken Karunas also garnered huge attention as Chidambaram. The film, which was based on the Tamil novel ‘Vekkai’ penned by Poomani, was directed by acclaimed filmmaker Vetri Maaran. Asuran also turned out to be the biggest hit for both, Dhanush and Vetri Maaran.
Similarly, G.V.Prakash made a striking comeback as a music director through this film and we saw the musician inside him exploding with rage. The film worked really well and struck a chord with the audience because of its core emotion and emotionally moving performances. Theatres witnessed the presence of thousands and thousands of family audiences for Asuran and it helped the film gain more recognition. Despite the release of Asuran on its digital platform, Amazon Prime, the film managed to hold a few shows in selected theatres and surprisingly, the occupancy was very good as well.
On that happy note, Asuran completes its 100th day today (January 11) and the fans are celebrating this special moment on social media. The film’s producer Kalaipuli S Thanu thanked the audience for the humongous support and shared a few specially designed posters for the 100th day. Priyamani to play female lead in Venkatesh's Asuran Telugu remake!
By MKV | Galatta | 12:12 PM
One of the biggest blockbusters of Kollywood in 2019, was the Dhanush starrer Asuran! This movie, which was directed by Vetri Maaran, marked veteran Mollywood actress Manju Warrier's debut in Tamil Cinema. Based on the Tamil novel Vekkai, by author Poomani, Asuran garnered both critical and commercial acclaim not just for the actors but all those involved with the movie. It was almost instantly announced that this movie would be remade in Telugu and later it came to light that Victory Venkatesh would be playing the lead. There were a lot of speculations over who the female lead would be and we now have a confirmation on this.
After initially considering Shriya Saran and Anushka Shetty to play the female leads, the makers of the Asuran Telugu remake have now roped in Priyamani for this role. Priyamani is a National Award winner, who has worked in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi movies. Her last Telugu outing was the 2016 release Mana Oori Ramayanam. She is now very actively returning to acting with two movie releases in 2019; one each in Malayalam and Kannada. Priyamani also forayed onto the digital platform by playing an important role in the Amazon Prime web-series The Family Man, which had Manoj Bajpayee in the lead. We also hear that Priyamani would be joining the shoot of the Asuran remake from the 22nd of January.
Venkatesh Daggubati seems to be going through a purple patch in his career. His two 2019 releases - F2: Fun and Frustration and Venky Mama, both turned out to become huge hits. Venkatesh would be coming together again with his Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu director Srikanth Addala, for the Telugu remake of Asuran. This project is to be jointly bankrolled by Suresh Babu and Kalaipuli S Thanu, under their Suresh Productions and V Creations banner, with shoot expecting to begin soon. This project's release is being planned for the summer of this year! Venky also has the sequel of F2: Fun and Frustration, in the pipeline. Keep watching this space for updates...

Popular director gets arrested after complaint from Asuran actor!
By MKV | Galatta | 12:12 PM
Dhanush and Vetrimaaran's fourth movie together - Asuran, turned out to become a blockbuster at the Box Office and this movie marked Mollywood diva Manju Warrier's maiden venture in Tamil Cinema. A very popular actress in Malayalam, Manju Warrier debuted in movies at the age of 17 with the 1995 movie Sakshyam. In the four subsequent years, she starred in some of the biggest hits in Mollywood and came to be known as one of the leading actresses of the industry. However, she moved away from movies after her marriage to actor Dileep in 1998 and made a comeback with the 2014 movie How Old Are You, after her marriage ended in divorce. Now, Manju Warrier has hit the headlines again!
Earlier this year, on October 22nd, Manju Warrier met top Kerala Police officer Loknath Behera and filed a complaint against director Shrikumar Menon for reportedly intimidating her and defaming her on socia media. A case was registered against the filmmaker under various sections including IPC 509, which is invoked when a word, gesture or act is intended to insult the modesty of a woman. Based on this case, the Police arrested Shrikumar Menon and he has subsequently been released on bail, following him giving the required surety.
Shrikumar Menon has earlier directed a number of advertisements with Manju Warrier herself starring in quite a few of them. He entered movies as a director with the 2018 movie Odiyan, which had Mohanlal and Manju Warrier in the lead. However, the movie bombed at the BO and could not live up to the expectations. On the case front, Shrikumar has reportedly assured the Kerala Police of full co-operation while Manju Warrier has penned a letter to the FEFKA (Film Employees Federation of Kerala), explaining about the case and seeking their support. Stay tuned to see what happens next...
